Football tips: Our 3 fab fancies for Friday’s Berlin derby

It’s hard to believe that these city rivals have only ever met six times over the years. Both are well over 100 years old, and in sharing the capital city there’s a good rivalry between the two sets of supporters.

This will obviously grow over the seasons if both can stay in Germany’s top-flight and sticking the match on a Friday night means it can generate even more interest. Hertha are on an awful run at home at the minute, but the market has them as favourites. Let’s have a look at the three best bets we’ve found for this rare and wonderful Berlin Derby.

Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals

Hertha are bottom of the home form table with zero wins over their four Bundesliga matches, drawing one and losing three. They have, at least, scored four over those four matches.

In fairness to Hertha though, they’ve had some tough teams to play, losing to RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund and drawing to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

Union are in healthy form coming into this match, they have drawn two and won three over their five most recent league matches and, looking at just their away matches, they’ve won two and drawn two, scoring seven over their four away Bundesliga matches.

They’re in good goal-scoring form, scoring 21 over their nine Bundesliga matches – scoring 13 over their last four matches alone. Hertha aren’t in good nick, but are scoring, while Union have the momentum here ans that’s why Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 goals is our first pick here.

Union Berlin Over 1.5 Goals

With 13 goals over their last four matches, and seven over their last four on the road, Union come into this match with the proverbial wind in their sails and they’ll be confident of getting one over their city rivals here. Hertha’s record of conceding goals at home makes for some dire reading as well, as they’ve managed to concede 11 over their four home matches and a total of 18 over their nine in the league overall.

Union have scored two goals or more in five out of their last seven matches in the Bundesliga and that, matched with Hertha’s terrible defensive record, means we’re getting great odds here on the away side to score Over 1.5 goals.

Matheus Cunha to Score Anytime

While Hertha’s woes are obvious and there for everyone to see, the good news is that Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha has six goals in nine league appearances as well as one in the cup. He has three in his last four matches for Hertha and, with him on penalties and freekicks, he’s Hertha best shout for a goal here.

Robert Andrich and Max Kruse for Union are decent nominations here as well, they’ve scored three and five respectively over their five most recent tied for the away side, but we’re going with Cunha as all of Hertha’s attacking play goes through him.
