Punchestown Race Card: Your ultimate Festival guide to day 1 on Tuesday

A cracking day's racing this!

Slade Steel and Mystical Power

The 2024 Punchestown Festival roars into action with a trio of Grade 1s on Tuesday.

After landing the Queen Mother at last month’s Cheltenham Festival, Captain Guinness bids to bring up a quick-fire double at the top level in the feature, the William Hill Champion Chase, but will need to reverse form with magnificent mare Dinoblue from earlier in the season.

The KPMG Champion Novice Hurdle promises to be a thrilling sequel to the Supreme as the first four home in last month’s Cheltenham opener – Slade Steel, Mystical Power, Firefox and Asian Master – renew rivalries.

The Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chase also looks a corker as Spillane’s Tower takes on Brown Advisory second Monty’s Star and National Hunt Chase runner-up Embassy Gardens, while the likes of American Mike, Sandor Clegane and Sharjah are also in the mix.

There is also a fascinating runner in the closer, the Haier INH Flat Race, as Attaho – a full brother to Allaho – makes his debut under rules.
