14:15 – Pastoral Way
Harswell Dandy was over 6l ahead of PASTORAL WAY at Pontefract a week ago but she was quickly into stride from her favourable draw and looked much more streetwise than the O’Meara colt, who was slowly away, ran green and ended up racing wide. Pastoral Way seems very likely to improve here and is given the verdict.
14:45 – Doon The Glen
Smalleytime suddenly emerged from a spell in the wilderness with a surprise AW win three weeks ago and remains dangerously well handicapped on some of last year’s turf form but DOON THE GLEN did very well to finish second at Newcastle on Friday, having been forced to wait a long time for a gap to appear, and he looks ready to strike off his basement mark. Catherine Chroi should also feature.
15:15 – Bustaam (NAP)
There is probably still more to come from low-mileage 4yo BUSTAAM (nap), who impressed when winning on last month’s seasonal debut and was not discredited when second on his latest outing. He gets the vote ahead of Powerful Response, who has also made a good start to this season. Roll It In Glitter, Fiver Friday and Gainsbourg also make the shortlist.
15:50 – Al Muqdad
C&D regular Classy Al did pretty well to finish third over 5f at Musselburgh last week and remains on a workable mark but one who might still have potential is AL MUQDAD, who looked very well suited by the step up to 7f on Tapeta last month and is still unexposed over this trip. Helter Skelter was a disappointing favourite at Ripon on Saturday but is a contender if judged on his sixth in a valuable handicap two starts ago.
16:25 – Yiengaa
Tip Top Tank is still unexposed and has good claims if judged on his handicap debut two starts ago but the most obvious answer is YIENGAA, who stuck to her task well when second at Nottingham nine days ago. Market support will bring Zaphea into the equation on her seasonal/handicap debut.
17:00 – Old Cock
Miaswell might make a race of this if he builds on his debut effort but this modest maiden appears to provide OLD COCK with an excellent opportunity. Edward Bethell’s gelding sat a long way off the pace and encountered some traffic before keeping on very nicely to finish fourth in a much better race than this at Newcastle three weeks ago.
17:35 – Philos
Tafsir did well last year and can pose a threat if her recent reappearance run did her good but this might go to PHILOS, who posted a good effort in defeat behind a well-handicapped rival on Tapeta a fortnight ago. Laudable looks quite interesting on his debut for Tristan Davidson and is next on the list.
