Bayern Munich v Real Madrid
UEFA Champions League match at Allianz Arena, Munich
TV: TNT Sports 1, Tuesday, 8:00pm

Bayern and Real felt like a much bigger clash this time last year, but now with the failings they’ve shown time and time again, it seems unlikely that this battle of wills should turn into anything other than raw, psychological warfare. Dark start, admittedly.

Still, probably not as dark as Harry Kane’s thoughts when he realises he’s moved to one of the surest-fire trophy-winning clubs in Europe only for them to cack the bed to Xabi Alonso. Let’s dive in.

Real Madrid to Win

You might think that Madrid winning the away leg is less likely and I understand, but the end product of these two on the pitch could not be more different.

And you likely have doubts creeping in – I get it. Bayern also progressed. But let’s consider the games: Arsenal in their current guise are much more efficient than Bayern, while Real Madrid were considerably worse off than City over two legs, yet still found a way to win.

However, Arsenal have a history of total failure while coasting, whereas City always overcome the odds. Ask yourself the question: in your subconscious before the second leg, you kinda knew Madrid would win despite what happened last year, and you also expected Arsenal to chuck it away.

Which one of these is a surer bet again?

Both Teams to Score – Yes

Bayern have failed to score at home just twice all year – against Dortmund in the league, and Copenhagen when the result didn’t matter in the Champions League group stages.

For all that I believe this game will go Madrid’s way, it will be far more due to FCB’s lack of control on games that will bring about their downfall than any lack of production on a certain Englishman’s shoulders.

Harry Kane to Have Two or More Shots on Target

Speak of the devil.

Harry Kane has played 22 home games this season and, so far has combined for 49 shots on target. That’s a fairly substantial figure. And what I like most about it is that he’s generally not going too long without testing the keeper multiple times.

Last week, he found the target four times after firing a blank against Arsenal. He had five against Mainz and two against Lazio. It’s generally a one-in-two kinda deal for this leg to land, and given the importance placed on this fixture, I like the price.

Vinicius Jr to Score or Assist

Twenty-eight goal contributions in thirty-three games – a freak. And that form isn’t just a distant memory, either. He’s provided ten goal contributions in his last nine games in all competitions, including two in the most recent Clasico.

As we know well here, he’s the man for the big occasion and doubling down on assists for insurance seems wise given Madrid’s goals kinda come from everywhere.

Jude Bellingham to Be Fouled Twice or More

How do you stop an all-conquering machine? You attack the engine. Everything Madrid does progressively goes through Jude Bellingham now which is of huge relief to me as the football club I support has retired his number before he could legally drive in most countries.

If Bayern have any sort of logical gameplan it involves taking him out.
