13:30 – Evenings Empire

The Boodles faller Karia Des Blaises (second choice) goes in a hood after disappointing in a Grade 2 last time and she could tap back into the promise shown at Fairyhouse in January. However, the Mullins filly is burdened with a lot of weight and there are alternatives. Compatriot EVENING’S EMPIRE could be seen in a very different light now she gets away from testing ground and the maidens she’s contested in Ireland were won by smart horses. Spiced Rum is highly likeable and should be suited by Cheltenham, while making her case also brings Emotivo into the equation.

14:05 – I Am Gonna Be

Last years runner-up Juniper returns in excellent form and ought to give this a good shot off her career-high mark but an interesting alternative is I AM GONNA BE, who has not yet built upon her very promising chasing debut in the autumn but moves up in trip for her stable debut and could still have untapped potential over fences. Presenting A Queen and La Renommee also make the shortlist.

14:40 – Realisation (NAP)

Most in this large field could plausibly have a say but the pick is REALISATION (nap), who is lightly raced and should bring significant potential now that she is away again from soft ground. Cottie has eyecatching recommendations given her Irish form on good ground and that she represents Dan Skelton, who won two more handicap hurdles at the big Aintree meeting last week and another at Cheltenham yesterday. Third on the list is Pretending who’s added two more seconds to her tally but has been showing improved form.

15:15 – Malaita

Half of the field are out of the handicap, two of them by huge margins. That will boost the others’ causes and preference is for MALAITA, who had a good-ground win over hurdles at this meeting 12 months ago and returns following her best run over fences. Game On For Glory is a serious rival, though.

15:50 – Golden Ace

Although the odds-on runner-up (and recent 2m4f Grade 1 winner) was not suited by the steady pace, GOLDEN ACE still produced an excellent performance to win the Grade 2 mares’ novice at last month’s Cheltenham Festival. She’s now 3-3 over hurdles and ought to be very hard to beat today. My Chiquita took very well to hurdling on good ground in the autumn and is a speculative each-way option to consider. Lightening Mahler, Wyenot and Ooh Betty are others with place claims.

16:25 – Somespring Special

With her breathing issues resolved, SOMESPRING SPECIAL readily drew clear to open her chasing account in a conditional jockeys’ race at Plumpton on Sunday. She competes off the same mark again here and still has plenty of scope for further progress over fences. Last year’s runner-up Royale Margaux needs to bounce back from a poor performance in February but is earmarked as a possible danger. Likely front-runner Sacre Coeur is next on the list.

17:00 – Geturguccion

4yos have held their own in this bumper and there’s good reason to believe that second choice I’ve Madeupmymind can step up on her Sandown form, which reads well anyway. GETURGUCCION looks the one to be with on the strength of her Newbury defeat at the hands of a rival who was that bit more battle-hardened. Asian Star was upsides the selection when falling in her only Irish point so she too commands respect. Anno Power and Khutulun Khan should run well.
