Kempton 14:55 – Saga

ITV Easter Monday gets underway here with a conditions race over 1m. SAGA should be hard to beat for the Gosden team, Frankie Dettori and The Queen. Obviously there are a few improvers in here, but Saga should be one of them. The colt was second a couple of times at Newmarket before scoring at Ascot last season. That win was over 7f but he had gone a mile the time before so the trip should be no issue. Does make all-weather debut.

Fairyhouse 15:15 – Homme D’Un Soir

ITV are also jumping in Ireland starting with this handicap hurdle over an extended 2m5f. This looks open. I’ll go with HOMME D’UN SOIR who has run well in big fields on his last two starts for the Crawford stable. Daryl Jacon takes the ride. Those efforts came at Fairyhouse and Navan and he might find this extra furlong is in his favour having stayed on well last time.

Kempton 15:30 – Hasty Sailor (each way)

Now the Roseberry Handicap over 1m3f. On paper HASTY SAILOR is the second string for Sir Michael Stoute but I’ll risk him eachway under Richard Kingscote. My hope has plenty of experience on the all-weather and ended last season with two decent wins at Newcastle and Wolverhampton. He’s lightly raced and stays very well and could easily be capable of more improvement.

Fairyhouse 15:50 – Darasso

A Grade 2 hurdle here over 2m4f. DARASSO has to give weight away to many of these but might still be good enough for Joseph O’Brien and Luke Dempsey. My selection has been very consistent this season and seems to be able to operate from two to three miles. This strip looks perfect and he has plenty going for him in a tough heat.

Kempton 16:05 – Roman Mist

This is the Listed Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes over 1m. ROMAN MIST really should find one or two too good in a race like this but there are reasons why she might run well here for Tom Ward and Richard Kingscote once again. First of all, my hope has a rating to match any of these. Secondly, she stays well and is race-fit. And thirdly she has a good draw to work from. Has every chance.

Fairyhouse 16:20 – Janidil

Another Grade 1 here but a chase over 2m4f. The door should open here for JANIDIL trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Mark Walsh. This looks a good opportunity for the eight-year-old who hasn’t won for nearly a year but who was a fine second to Allaho in the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival. He was thrashed that day but it’s still probably the best form on offer.

Fairyhouse 17:00 – School Boy Hours (each way)

Now the big one of the day in the Irish Grand National Chase over 3m5f. This might be the day for SCHOOL BOY HOURS for Noel Meade and the excellent Sean Flanagan. My selection has a lovely racing weight of 10st 10lb and returned this season with a fabulous success in the brilliant Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown. Since then he was about to run a huge race at Cheltenham in the Kim Muir before stumbling badly four out and eventually being pulled up and he was also pulled up in the Grand National when he nearly fell at the ninth. With a clear run he has strong eachway claims at least.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
