13:15 – Tan Rapido
TAN RAPIDO ended last season with a pretty smooth victory at Windsor on the turf and was made a very short-priced favourite for his return at Wolverhampton 22 days ago. However, he ran far too keen early on to be able to finish off his race strongly. He was vulnerable late on and that should’ve taken some of the freshness out of him. From a pedigree perspective, a rating of 82 looks to underestimate where he could end up.
13:50 – Rocking Tree
ROCKING TREE has got the perfect 100 per cent record since switching stables to George Boughey from Ger Lyons in Ireland. He made a mockery of his opening handicap mark at Wolverhampton last time despite running around in the closing stages and winning with any amount in hand. He gets just a 5lb nudge up the handicap and that shouldn’t stop the hat-trick.
14:25 – Okeechobee
OKEECHOBEE was in flying form before an enforced 18-month absence and his return run earlier this month behind a 120-rated rival in Dubai Honour was a great effort considering all that. He did get very tired late on and his young trainer Harry Charlton turns him out again just 25 days later. If he can avoid the dreaded ‘bounce’ factor, he looks a major player.
15:00 – Lord North
LORD NORTH has been a superstar for many seasons but surprisingly makes a rare return back down to this 1m distance for the first time since 2019. He’s not short of natural pace and having had a couple of outings this season he holds a fitness edge over the majority of the field. He can serve it up to the ‘talking horse’, Nostrum.
15:35 – War Rooms
WAR ROOMS made a very satisfactory debut at Doncaster over 7f and then dipped his toe into Listed company. He seemed to get a little bit lost in heavy ground, despite rallying late on to finish third. He’s really going to appreciate the step up to the 1m 2f and he might just be able to outsprint likely market leader Arabian Crown late on, as that rival looked a thorough stayer in the making last season.
