14:10 – Kallippos

Indication Ember’s Brocklesby run gives her solid claims but she needs to bounce back quickly from a tepid effort at Thirsk on Saturday. Larchill Lass (second choice) and Loving Angel are newcomers of note but KALLIPPOS, the stable’s first 2yo runner of the year, is tentatively selected to make a winning debut.

14:45 – Miss Brazen

Over half the field are making their seasonal return and of those who aren’t, there are doubts over the current form of Zaman Jemil and Soul Seeker. Honour Your Dreams is interesting but the two to appeal most are Elegant Erin and MISS BRAZEN. The former is well handicapped and likes it at Beverley but Miss Brazen has run well on her return in each of her two seasons of racing and she’s well-treated on last year’s best.

15:20 – Open Secret

A fascinating novice with some interesting 3yos on show. Stay In The Game and Spirit Of Acklam can both rate higher over this trip as 3yos but the pair to appeal most are Dambuster and OPEN SECRET. The former looked one to follow when winning at Sandown on his debut and a subsequent Group 3 defeat shouldn’t be held against him. Open Secret has shaped well in two AW runs though and could prove better suited by today’s switch to turf.

15:55 – Classy Boy

Global Skies and Cerulean Bay are eased in grade and still have potential, while Sea The Dream found plenty for pressure at Thirsk on his reappearance and this stiffer test should suit. He’s no banker to confirm those placings with Catton Lady though and Mick Easterby’s filly still has untapped potential at this sort of trip. She’s second choice but CLASSY BOY had some strong 2yo form and could take a step forward this year having been gelded during his absence.

16:30 – Beltane (NAP)

His recent form-figures may be uninspiring but there are strong grounds for expecting better from BELTANE (nap) on this return to grass. He’s 4lb lower than when winning over C&D last June and he could enjoy a tactical advantage in today’s field. Arthur’s Realm is better than he could show at Lingfield last time and could prove the main danger.

17:05 – Loddon

The return to 1m2f will be in Lenny’s Spirit’s favour and his return to action at Lingfield can be ignored as he was just starting to make up some ground when impeded for most of the final furlong. My Harrison George ended 2023 on the up and can go well if handling the ground, while last year’s runner-up Where’s Jeff (second choice) has an excellent record over C&D and should be in the thick of it on his reappearance. It might be worth chancing LODDON, whose two best runs have come on heavy ground and who looks on a handy mark on last year’s best.

17:40 – Little Rose

Remonstrate (second choice) can step forward now handicapping over a longer trip, while Flowering and Jailbird should be on the premises if matching their AW form on slow turf. The fact William Haggas is persevering with LITTLE ROSE is notable and this well-related filly can enhance her paddock value by coming out on top here. She’s shown promise in two handicap runs and Tom Marquand replaces a 7lb claimer this afternoon.
