13.15 – Lost Angel

LOST ANGEL is by Dark Angel out of a two-year-old winner over five furlongs, so there is plenty of speed in her pedigree. Bought for 150,000 guineas as a yearling, she clearly looks the part as well and there is no better trainer than Clive Cox to get a newcomer ready. The betting is likely to prove the best guide to this maiden, but Lost Angel certainly looks to have strong credentials on paper.

13.50 – Gale force Maya

GALE FORCE MAYA is very effective under these conditions, as she showed when ending last season with a couple of useful performances over course and distance. After winning a handicap here in September, she then ran to a similar level in defeat when filling the runner-up spot in a listed race the following month, keeping on well to beaten just a short head. A likeable and consistent mare, Gale Force Maya goes well fresh and a BHA mark of 98 still looks fair now back in a handicap.

14.25 – Tacarib Bay

TACARIB BAY looked a promising colt when last seen finishing third in the Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury in October, showing improved form on his first appearance since making a winning debut at Haydock five months earlier. He was beaten only two lengths at Newbury and arguably shaped better than the bare result after racing closer to the pace than the pair who beat him. There should be more to come from Tacarib Bay as a three-year-old and he is fancied to defy a BHA mark of 103 to resume winning ways here for Richard Hannon, who is seeking his third win in this race since 2014.

15.00 – Master Of The Seas

MASTER OF THE SEAS won the Craven Stakes at this meeting last year and he then produced a career-best effort to be beaten just a neck in the 2000 Guineas over the same course and distance. Admittedly, he wasn’t at his best in two starts last autumn, but this is a good chance for him to bounce back after a gelding operation during the winter. That could well eke out a bit more improvement and Master of The Seas is already the pick of these on form if getting back to the level he showed in the 2000 Guineas.

15.35 – Perfect News

PERFECT NEWS looked a bright prospect when winning a nursery over this course and distance in September, showing a good attitude to get the verdict by a neck. She was unable to follow up when sent off favourite for the Oh So Sharp Stakes back here in October, but that wasn’t a bad run at all in a muddling race, ultimately passing the post two and a quarter lengths behind the winner in third. The ground was possibly softer than ideal on that occasion, too, so she is well worth a chance to resume her progress now fitted with a first-time tongue strap for her return to action.

16.10 – Crenelle

CRENELLE looked a very unlucky loser when third (subsequently promoted to second) on her debut at Southwell earlier this month, doing well to finish as close as she did after meeting significant interference in the final furlong. That form sets the standard in this line up and the small ‘p’ attached to her Timeform rating denotes that she is likely to have a bigger effort in the locker with that run under her belt. Therefore, this looks a good opportunity for Crenelle to get off the mark at the second attempt for her powerful connections.

16.45 – High Fibre

HIGH FIBRE showed improved form when last seen winning a nursery at this course in October, staying on strongly to land the spoils by five lengths. This will be tougher following a 10 lb hike in the weights, but High Fibre is likely to have more to offer as a three-year-old, particularly as his stamina is drawn out further. The step up to a mile and a quarter here will certainly suit and another bold bid seems assured if he’s ready to go after more than five months off.
