Magic Saint
Trainer: Paul Nicholls Jockey: Angus Cheleda Age: 7 Weight: 12st 1lbs
Shaped as if needing the run on his 19f Wetherby reappearance a fortnight ago and should be spot on now. Won this race second time up last season off an identical mark. Obvious claims.
Hatcher
Trainer: Dan Skelton Jockey: Harry Skelton Age: 8 Weight: 11st 12lbs
Smart chaser who won a pair of handicap chases in the summer. Good third over C&D last month and probably worth ignoring his latest run in a Grade 2 hurdle.
Moon Over Germany
Trainer: Robin Dickin Jockey: Lorcan Murtagh Age: 10 Weight: 11st 9lbs
Very useful hurdler/chaser for Henry De Bromhead but ended his time with that yard with a poor run over hurdles at Killarney in May. Had wind surgery ahead of this first outing for new stable.
Stolen Silver
Trainer: Sam Thomas Jockey: Charlie Deutsch Age: 6 Weight: 11st 3lbs
Useful sort who made a winning start for new trainer Sam Thomas in a 3-runner Market Rasen novice handicap chase last month. This clearly more competitive but he may have more to give for new yard.
Editeur Du Gite
Trainer: Gary Moore Jockey: Niall Houlihan Age: 7 Weight: 11st 3lbs
Progressive last spring, notably bagging the very competitive Red Rum at Aintree in April. Second when unseating last in Ascot handicap 13 days ago and looks to have returned in similarly good form.
Bun Doran
Trainer: Tom George Jockey: Jonathan Burke Age: 10 Weight: 11st 3lbs
Grade 2 winner in December 2019 but has struggled since, finishing well-held fourth in Warwick handicap in this headgear combination when last seen in May. Well treated but too much to prove.
Fanzio
Trainer: Richard Hobson Jockey: Lilly Pinchin Age: 6 Weight: 11st 1lbs
Successful twice last autumn and back to winning ways at Perth in April. Off since a disappointing run over hurdles the following month. On a clear career-high mark so probably best to look elsewhere.
Kap Auteuil
Trainer: Toby Lawes Jockey: Tom Cannon Age: 6 Weight: 10st 11lbs
Made good strides over fences at the start of the year and picked up where he’d left off by making it 4 wins in a row in 19.5f Stratford handicap 15 days ago. 3 lb rise unlikely to prevent a bold bid.
Bathiva
Trainer: Fergal O’Brien Jockey: Paddy Brennan Age: 7 Weight: 10st 9lbs
Has a good strike-rate over fences (4-8) but latest C&D fourth (Hatcher third) suggests the handicapper perhaps has him about right for the time being.
Timeform Verdict: MAGIC SAINT took this race off this mark on his second start of last season and is fancied to repeat the feat. Gary Moore has his team in excellent form so Editeur du Gite is feared most on the back of an encouraging reappearance run at Ascot. Kap Auteuil should also have a say as he bids to make it 5 in a row.
