What horse is Rachael Blackmore riding in today’s Aintree Grand National?

Can she win it again?

Minella Indo

Rachael Blackmore is riding one of the classiest horses tackling the 2024 Grand National at Aintree on Saturday.

The County Tipperary native is booked on Minella Indo, who won the Cheltenham Gold Cup – the Blue Riband in Jumps racing – in fine style in 2021.

Blackmore made history a few weeks later by becoming the first female jockey in history to win the Grand National after steering Minella Times to glory.

Minella Indo – trained by Henry de Bromhead – will be Blackmore’s sixth spin in the Grand National, and her mount has dropped to a career-low handicap mark of 159 from a high of 175 three years ago.

The 11-year-old has been off the track for 120 days as the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival was abandoned. He has one win from three starts in the current campaign.

Timeform: 2021 Gold Cup hero who was well prepared back from 7 months off to land Grade 3 at Punchestown in October. Similar form when fourth behind Latenightpass in Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham in December but suspicion this 11-y-o will find a few too good.
