TUESDAY NIGHT’S FANTASY SLATE

Chelsea, Arsenal and Watford as favourites stand out for picks,  but let’s have a deeper look…

Arsenal have been on a bit of a roll, winning each of their last three games but it is still surprising to see them favoured in this game. Leicester are nine points ahead of the Gunners in the standings and they are 17.5 goals ahead on expected goal difference.

The Gunners have had no success against the current top 4 teams in the league, going 0W-1D-4L combined in those matches – their win over Wolves at the weekend was their first victory over a team ahead of them in the league in five years – including a 2-0 loss to Leicester earlier in the season.

Despite their mini winning streak, there is no reason to believe that Arsenal has turned the corner against top competition. This game has the shortest odds of going over 2.5 goals of the three games, meaning Jamie Vardy and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be popular choices on Tuesday evening. The health of James Maddison will be key for Leicester though, and if, as seems likely, he cannot start, the Arsenal forward holds more appeal.

Norwich are large underdogs against Watford. While the Canaries are last in the league, but Watford are only seven points clear of Norwich and they have been held to six wins all season long. Expected goals scored the gap between Watford and Norwich is minuscule too. Watford are 3.1 expected goals ahead of Norwich.

This projects to be an evenly matched game and Norwich should be desperate due to being on the brink of relegation, so, if you’re looking for bargain options, Emiliano Buendia, one of the most prolific chance-creators in the league, could be a savvy selection at a reasonable price. Watford have lost four of their last five games, and conceded six goals in their most recent pair of matches, so Norwich players have more appeal than usual.

Crystal Palace’s three defeats in a row has taken some of the air from the previously soaring Eagles’ wings, and that downward trend will probably continue on Tuesday night against Chelsea. Despite their shock defeat to West Ham last week, Frank Lampard’s Blues are still well placed to take a Top-4 spot, with their win over Watford last time out masterminded by Christian Pulisic. The American was tasked with replacing Eden Hazard this season, no easy feat, and struggled to fill those boots for the most part, but since the return he has shown why he was pursued, and he figures to be a pivotal figure in this game too.

Willian, with his set-pieces and recent goal-scoring, is the most expensive player on the board tonight (with good reason) but Pulisic should provide a cheaper value option if you want to have some exposure to a likely Chelsea win.
