It’s Grand National day – one of the biggest days in the Racing calendar! Everybody remembers their first Grand National wager and I’m hoping the race will never lose that attraction.

13:20 – West Balboa

This daughter of Yeats, WEST BALBOA, won this race last year, and has run at Aintree twice and won twice. Ground conditions will not be a problem and Dan Skelton has proven what a good target trainer he is as the stable bid for a repeat win.

13:55 – Caldwell Potter

Paying £740,000 for a horse at the sales does not guarantee you success, however, it should help towards getting it! Paul Nicholls and his team will be hoping this former Gordon Elliot inmate, CALDWELL POTTER is money well spent. His form looks good and ground conditions are fine for him on his debut for his new connections.

14:30 – Kinondo Kwetu (Each Way)

The Sam England-trained KINONDO KWETU (each-way) has a good record at the track. I’m sure he would prefer the ground to dry out a little, but he was third in this race last year, and I can see him running a big race having missed out on running in the Grand National this year.

15:05 – Strong Leader (Each Way)

I am going for a little value in this contest with STRONG LEADER. He ran very well at the track last year finishing second in a Grade 1 over two miles. He definitely got the 3m trip when upped in distance behind Noble Yates at Cheltenham on trials day. His jumping lets him down, but I’m hoping back at a track we know he likes, he can out-run his odds.

16:00 – Meetingofthewaters, Corach Rambler, Noble Yeats Panda Boy

These are my four picks for the Grand National. MEETINGOFTHEWATERS has a lovely light weight and comes from the ultima, the race which saw last year‘s winner come from at Cheltenham. He is an improver who ran a very good race off this mark at Cheltenham. There could be more to come from him.

CORACH RAMBLER needs no introduction having won last year. He is higher in the ratings this year but I’m more concerned about how tough a race he had in the gold cup. If you could guarantee his well-being after that gruelling contest, he would still be the one for me.

NOBLE YEATS has been campaigned sparingly over fences this season. He was a little disappointing in the stayers , but some of his form prior to that was really good, and he is guaranteed to stay, plus he is a previous winner of the race who backed up with a good force in the contest last year.

PANDA BOY is a horse I really like, big, powerful grey who jumps well, is lightly raced, and will be suited to the test the Grand National poses.

17:00 – Hercule du Seuil

Not been seen since running at Punchestown in October. HERCULE DU SEUIL has looked really good and is a strong traveller and good jumper who will revel in this test.

17:35 – Tripoli Flyer

TRIPOLI FLYER was a good winner at Lingfield last time for the Fergal O’Brien’s team, beating the highly thought of Kingston Flyer. Paddy Brennan would love to ride another big winner here and they had a big bumper winner last year with Dysart Enos.
