13:20 Sandown – Amazonian Dream

Only three have had a run so they may have a fitness advantage over this 5f trip. Amazonian Dream was second to Berkshire Shadow on debut last season and is a course and distance winner at Sandown. Can give Irish jockey Ross Coakley a winner to kick off the TV coverage.

13:50 Sandown – Blue Trail

Blue Trail has been well backed already for this 1m handicap and it’s not surprising given how hot the trainer Charlie Appleby and jockey William Buick are at the moment. Wanees may be the one to chase him home.

14:05 Perth – Platinumcard

Platinumcard looks well handicapped on his UK Flat form and even though he has a 7lb penalty to carry, the opposition looks weak enough.

14:25 Sandown – Juan Elcano

Mostahaf tries 10 furlongs for the first time but looked to get home reasonably well when winning the Group 3 Darley Stakes over 9f last season. That performance didn’t scream to me that he wanted a little further though. I’ve always been a Juan Elcano fan since he was fifth in the 2,000 Guineas behind Kameko as a three-year-old in 2020. He’s won first time up after a wind op at Royal Ascot last year and good ground is the key to him.

Perth-Racecourse

14:40 Perth – Rath an Iuir

A wide-open 3m 6f handicap for the Highland National Chase and I like Rath an Iuir for trainer Rose Dobbin and jockey Craig Nicholl. She was sixth to Win My Wings in the Eider Chase at Newcastle on her second run after a lay-off and then was last of four to Potterman at Kelso. We’ve seen Wing My Wings win the Scottish Grand National since and both he and Potterman are among the fancies for the Sandown Gold Cup on Saturday in the jumps season’s finale.

There’s nothing of their quality in this race and Rath an Iuir looks a solid each-way play at a nice price.

15:00 Sandown – Alcohol Free

Alcohol Free heads the market in this Group 2 one-mile test. She’s so far ahead in the ratings that  it’s hard to see one that will beat her.

15:35 Sandown – River Thames

A lot of unexposed types in this 1m 2f Group 3 Classic Trial and I was impressed when River Thames won at Punchestown last season. The runner-up Changingoftheguard won subsequently at Dundalk even if some of the others behind didn’t. Goldspur sets the standard of the home brigade for Charlie Appleby and William Buick.
