The Triumph Hurdle signals the start of the final day of the Cheltenham Festival, with the famous Grade 1 contest serving to whet the appetite ahead of the headline event – the Gold Cup.
Run over 2m 1f, the Triumph Hurdle sees the field tackle eight flights as the most promising juveniles compete for a purse in the region of £125,000. Only four-year-old horses can enter the event, which is staged on the New Course at Prestbury Park and is considered a natural stepping stone to the Champion Hurdle in subsequent seasons.
Former winners include Grand National hero Tiger Roll, promising chaser Defi Du Seuil and Burning Victory – ridden by Paul Townend and trained by Willie Mullins – who inherited victory in 2020 after Goshen unseated Jamie Moore at the last.
A large number of horses hold entries for the 2021 Triumph Hurdle, although it will be a select field that eventually lines up at the post. Thanks to Paddy’s non-runner money back offer, there’s no risk of losing out if your pick withdraws.
Ruby Walsh: “I’m a huge Zanahiyr fan and he’s the horse I would ride but I’m going to leave him on the betting front and say you should back QUILIXIOS because he has to run in this. If Zanahiyr comes out, Quilixios’ odds are going to be a hell of a lot shorter.”

Frank Hickey: “TRITONIC is the one that could cause a little upset. I really liked his hurdles debut where he was jumping really well – bar a mistake when reaching for the last – and he showed a really nice attitude to run down the frontrunner Casa Loupi.
“Trainer Alan King also has a blinding record in this one. He won with Katchit and Penzance, while he also had Walkon and Franchoek finish second. Trintonic looks a real stayer and the test of stamina will be right up his street.”
The Triumph Hurdle takes place on Friday March 19, on the fourth and final day of the Cheltenham Festival 2021. It’s scheduled to kick off the day’s racing at 13.20.
