Ah, the ever reliable English Football League. It’s always there when you need it. No more so than this weekend where the Premier League fancy Dans have swanned off on their holidays again leaving the lower-league work horses to fill our weekend football fix.

Normally The Championship takes a breather during international weeks but they’ve decided to ignore this bizarre non-UEFA break and just crack on. That means we’ve got action from the second to the fourth tier to get our teeth into on Saturday at 3pm.

I’ve found an interesting wager from both The Championship and League One as well as a couple in League Two which all adds up to a lively four-fold. So, with our gratitude to the good, honest hard-working lower league folk on full display, let’s see what I’ve found this weekend.

Barnsley v Bournemouth – Bournemouth Win & Over 2.5 Goals

Bournemouth are understandably big, big favourites to prevail over The Championship’s worst team, Barnsley. The Tykes are 24th and find themselves below even Derby on goal difference despite The Rams having had 21 points stripped off of them this season.

The Cherries are in shoddy form but they’re still 3rd in the second tier. They’ve won just three of their last 11 in all competitions, but those three have come in their last five. The Tykes have won just twice all season and one of those came on the second weekend of the season.

Bournemouth should win here and we can back goals as well. Over 2.5 Goals has clicked in five of the home side’s last six and three of The Cherries’ last four. Bournemouth to Win and Over 2.5 Goals is a very attractive price.

Cheltenham v Wigan – Wigan to Win

To League One where high flying Wigan travel to Cheltenham who are putting up a good fight in securing their third-tier status after promotion last term. The Latics are in absolutely lethal form and are top of the division while Town are going pretty well themselves and are 18th, four points clear of the drop zone.

Wigan haven’t lost any game in any competition since October 26th and they’ve won eight of their last 10 league games. Cheltenham’s last win anywhere came at the end of November and this should be one-way traffic. Wigan to win. Need I say any more?

Carlisle v Sutton – Sutton to Win

Carlisle host Sutton in League Two where the visitors are pulling up trees following their promotion out of the National League last season. They’re 4th in the 4th tier and will be eyeing another party at the end of the campaign.

Carlisle have slowly been on the decline for some time and they’re down in 20th, though they’re in good shape to stay up with an eight point cushion to the drop zone. Sutton are in great form and they’ve lost one of their last nine, drawing three and winning five.

Carlisle had won four in five before drawing two and losing last time out. It looks like that bit of momentum they built up has deserted them and with the away side still motoring along we have to be on the Sutton Win.

Mansfield v Leyton Orient – Mansfield to Win

Finally to ret-hot Mansfield who tackle Leyton Orient on Saturday. Nigel Clough’s Stags started the season poorly but they’ve now won 10 of their 11 last League Two matches. They’re up to 7th and face and Orient side sitting in 14th.

The east London side have lost three of their last five, winning one and drawing the other. This is about as straightforward as it gets and I can’t believe our luck with the price on offer from the ever-generous Paddy for Mansfield To Win.
