Washington Commanders @ Chicago Bears, Friday 1:16am
TV: Sky Sports Action
The Chicago Bears going up against the Washington Commanders doesn’t scream ‘Stay-up-until-four-in-the-morning-which-will-require-four-coffees-before-midday-to-keep-you-semi-functional-in-your-nine-to-five’, admittedly.
But that’s not to say it isn’t a lovely betting heat in which to get involved. What we’re seeing here are two teams at very different stages of their franchises, having gotten here in very different ways too. Chicago dismantled their roster in order to find a quarterback they felt could carry them. Now, even if he was capable of passing a ball more than fifteen yards, it still wouldn’t work like that because modern NFL front offices will tell you that the QB has to be the last piece of the puzzle – not the first.
Washington? They did the building. They have a good offensive line, an elite defense and a top-tier receiver in McLaurin. But they’re still waiting on that signal-caller to get them to the promised land. No wonder this looks like a dead rubber despite the season starting a mere five weeks ago. Still, if you’re going to commit to this one, the least I can do is cover the cost of those coffees for tomorrow morning.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Commanders to Win
It might sound like a mad idea, but the Commanders are actually a better team than the Bears because their quarterback, while being the butt of my jokes for many years now, can actually complete a pass when his playcalling aids him. That’s been inconsistent this year and I do believe it has the biggest say on their end product.
The Bears blitz a lot, meaning they’ll end up having to play a lot of man coverage on the back end making things easier for Carson Wentz, and with this Washington front piling the pressure on his opposite QB, Justin Fields, I’d suggest they’re the most likely winners.
J.D McKissic to Score Anytime
J.D McKissic isn’t the best runner in the world but his ability to get opener against linebackers and safeties is what separates him from your everyday back. As previously discussed, Chicago will try to fluster Wentz but they’ll be sure to have a checkdown available to him on every play.
McKissic is that guy, especially as Antonio Gibson looks spent and Brian Robinson literally got shot last month.
Over 37.5 Points
I just can’t coerce myself into backing an under where you just need both teams to score nineteen point. Given there’s likely a lot of turnovers in this game, I’d anticipate some free points on display too, so if you’re staying up until this hour of the morning, I’m at least not going to push you to pray for fewer points.
Chicago Bears to Score Under 19.5
While the Bears have won both of their home games so far this season they only covered this line against the Texans and in their three losses on the road only managed to get over this line against the Vikings. Granted they’re going to be cheered on by a boisterous home crowd but the hosts have lost all three previous meetings between the sides at Soldier Field. We’ve already backed the Commanders to Win and we don’t see the Bears covering their line as well.
