13:50 – Al Farabi

An ultra-competitive early-season sprint handicap with AL FARABI an interesting contender for the in-form Roger Varian yard. He remains unexposed over 6f and on turf, his classy dam boasting a good record here, and could be the way to go from a potentially favourable draw in stall 3. Though he might prefer slower ground, last year’s winner Orazio is an obvious player after a good comeback at Doncaster. C&D winner Wobwobwob and the front-runner Dark Thirty are also high on the shortlist.

14:25 – El Cordobes

The Frankel colt EL CORDOBES has a bit to find on form but he cost a fortune (2 million guineas as a yearling) and was pretty impressive at Kempton, so he’s worth taking a chance on with the assurance that his yard will have him well prepared for this. Progressive French colt Narkez is an obvious danger, for all this ground is an unknown, and Gasper de Lemos should make a better three-year-old so he’s worthy of consideration for his powerful yard.

15:00 – Royal Rhyme

A good renewal of this Group 3. A couple of rain showers wouldn’t go amiss but ROYAL RHYME appeals as one who can kick on again at four and is narrowly preferred to last year’s winner Ottoman Fleet who is better than he could show in Dubai this winter. His trainer Charlie Appleby has won four of the last eight renewals. Like the selection, the exciting Embesto could step up again as a four-year-old and also makes the shortlist.

15:35 – Dance Sequence

The exciting DANCE SEQUENCE has the scope to make a smart three-year-old and is already proven at this level/track having won the Oh So Sharp Stakes over C&D in the autumn, so she can cement her placing as one of the favourites for the 1000 Guineas. Matrika picked up a weak Group 2 at the Curragh when last seen but she escapes a penalty and the form of her second in the Albany the previous week makes her a clear next best. True Cyan has plenty of improvement to find but did the job nicely on debut here in September. Spiritual needs to settle better this season if she is to fulfil her potential.

16:10 – Tequila

TEQUILA, a half-sister to a two-year-old winner in France, was the most expensive of these at the sales (360,000 Euros) and represents last year’s winning connections, so gets the vote before market clues. The speedily-bred Lucid comes from a yard that has an excellent record in this so is shortlisted, while Bountiful, whose dam won at two, and Amestris both have eye-catching jockey bookings. At a price, Memardee could run well for a small yard that has started the season strongly.

16:45 – Hillbridge

A chance is taken on newcomer HILLBRIDGE, who makes plenty of paper appeal being by Frankel and out of a listed-winning half-sister to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Newspaperofrecord. Aurora’s Beauty, the mount of William Buick from the yard’s pair, appeals as one who should take a step forward from her debut. Taramasalata may yet need more time but is bred to be decent, while Miss Justice, Hey Big Spender and Poetic Dawn are other likely types among the debutantes in a contest where the betting should reveal more clues.

17:20 – Bust A Move

This looks a three-year-old handicap to note and the market should prove informative with a few but Northern raider BUST A MOVE impressed with the move he made into contention when chasing home another upwardly-mobile sort on his return at Doncaster and could be worth siding with to prove his mark a lenient one. Stormy Waves looks sure to be suited by this increase in trip on return and is feared. Kalpana, and Assailant, equipped with first-time blinkers, are respected, while Align The Stars was left poorly placed when last seen at Chelmsford and remains open to improvement.
