13:30 – Yaanaas

YAANAAS has an excellent pedigree but presumably hasn’t been the easiest to train as he only made his debut in March. However, he looked well above average as he made a winning start, always travelling strongly and just pushed out in the closing stages. He confirmed himself a smart prospect when following up under a penalty at Kempton last time, improving a chunk and doing especially well under the circumstances given the runner-up had the run of the race.

He looks a horse to keep on the right side now entering handicaps, particularly from what looks a potentially lenient mark, and he is a strong fancy to keep his unbeaten record intact now switched to turf. Baltimore Boy didn’t get the chance to show what he could do on return at Doncaster last month so he may emerge as the main threat.

14:05 – Maximum Impact

The ones with previous experience are fancied to come to the fore and it is MAXIMUM IMPACT who makes the most appeal. He was a wide-margin winner on debut in heavy ground at Leicester last month, handling conditions better than his rivals, quickening clear in the final furlongs to record a 12-length success. It’s hard to be sure what that form is worth given the appalling conditions, but he’s open to improvement and is likely to prove above average. Action Point also looked a good prospect when making a winning start at Kempton and can pose the biggest threat.

14:40 – Dancing Goddess

This looks a very deep novice but it’s still hard to escape the claims of DANCING GODDESS, who was well backed and made a winning debut by a clear margin at Kempton in November (strong form), and took a big step forward when finishing runner-up over a mile at the same course last month. She wasn’t as clued up as the more experienced winner, showing signs of greenness when the race began in earnest but staying on all the way to the line. That experience won’t be lost on her and she can show the benefit now. Orchid Bloom and Elegancia are also open to a fair bit of improvement and can supply the biggest dangers.

15:15 – Trueshan

TRUESHAN may have met with a shock defeat on his recent return at Nottingham, but made a perfectly satisfactory return after six months off, just unable to get past the reopposing Rajinsky who’d been able to control the tempo. He is still a top-class stayer, though, and is fully expected to leave that running behind over a course and distance in which he can boast an unbeaten record with likely underfoot conditions in his favour. Andrew Balding’s Coltrane enjoyed an excellent 2022 but, not for the first time, is fancied to come off second best to Trueshan.

15:50 – Bradsell

This looks like a cracking renewal of the Pavilion Stakes, featuring four horses who tasted success at Group 2 level or higher as two-year-olds. BRADSELL had his juvenile season ended prematurely by an injury sustained in the Phoenix Stakes, but the form of his Coventry win over course and distance is strong, and he can make the most of the weight he receives from Breeders’ Cup winner Mischief Magic. Desert Cop burst onto the three-year-old sprinting scene with his success in a valuable conditions event at Newcastle on Good Friday and may prove best of the remainder.

16:25 – My Prospero

MY PROSPERO developed into a high-class colt last season, winning three times, while also finishing third in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. He looked in fine shape beforehand and ran his best race to date when again finishing third over a mile and a quarter in the Champion Stakes on his final start, seeing out the trip well after getting briefly tapped for foot. The return to a mile back in listed company isn’t much of a concern on his return to action and he sets a healthy standard on form. Lusail is probably the main danger, although his stablemate Chindit deserves plenty of respect, too.

17:00 – Spoof

SPOOF has returned in excellent form, building on his reappearance when an unlucky loser at Yarmouth last month, and quickly gaining compensation in a heavy-ground handicap at Windsor last week. He ran out a convincing winner on that occasion and looks ahead of his mark turned out under a 4 lb penalty. Isle of Lismore and Fantasy Master head the list of dangers.
