In-form juvenile hurdler AFADIL is taken to beat his elders and get back on the scoresheet. Improving mare Shelikesthelights is feared most, ahead of Traprain Law who won over C&D last month. A few others also have possibilities in this competitive opener.
The Fergal O’Brien-trained YOUNG BUSTER won in good style over 2m4f at Ffos Las last month and, with the step up in trip a likely positive on handicap debut, he can follow up. Heavy ground may have been too much for Twin Power at Sandown last time and this previously progressive 6yo is feared most for Paul Nicholls. Langdale Lane’s 2m4f maiden hurdle win here has worked out well and he is next on the list ahead of Atlanta Brave.
Olly Murphy won this last year and HOURVARI earns the vote having impressed the last twice. Hugos New Horse again ran well when third in the EBF Final at Sandown last time and is second choice.
The progressive Richmond Lake is a strong contender having won two of his last three starts but preference is for BASS ROCK, who has to bounce back from a disappointing run here in February but holds likeable claims judged on the promise of his first two chase starts earlier in the campaign. The 10yo Baron De Midleton has been better than ever the last twice and is respected for Brian Ellison, who has a fine record in this race.
The return to better ground and the step up in trip could prompt improvement from EBONELLO and she is the selection ahead of Bellatrixsa, who is on a handy mark now back over hurdles. Sabrina is one to consider for Paul Nicholls, while Great Snow has a progressive profile and Get A Tonic won this last year. In an open race, Charm Offensive and Jasmiwa are other possible players if the drying ground isn’t a negative.
Having bolted up at Market Rasen 12 days ago, SNOWY CLOUDS (NAP) is well treated under a 7lb penalty and this highly progressive 7yo is taken to make it 4-5 over fences. This is likely to take a lot more winning, however, and the very lightly raced One Mill Harbour could be a big danger having won on last month’s chase debut at Newcastle. Champ De Gane and Great Heart’Jac could also be involved.
Milan Bridge and Quick Draw represent powerful stables and are interesting contenders back over hurdles from fences but this could go to the Irish challenger ATACANTER, who has shaped with plenty of promise in his first two handicaps. Lepashe went close on his handicap debut at Doncaster and is second choice.
