13:30 Cheltenham – Windtothelightning
ITV Thursday gets under way here with a handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. This is tricky. WINDTOTHELIGHTNING is in tremendous form like many of these and was impressive when beating the re-opposing Presenting a Queen at Ayr last time. Even with the change in the weights I’m happy to stick with the Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero runner under the talented Henry Brooke.
13:50 Newmarket – Shouldvebeenaring (each way)
The Flat racing is here at Newmarket and gets under way with a handicap over 6f. Many open to improvement. SHOULDVEBEENARING has a big weight but has been up against some talented horses like Sakheer in his time. I like the use of Alec Voikhansky who takes off 7lb and my hope very much has race fitness on his side. An eachway bet.
14:25 Newmarket – New Business
I love this race and it always throws up a useful horse. It’s the Wood Ditton Maiden over 1m for 3yo. A guessing game. I’ll chance NEW BUSINESS for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy. The son of Sea the Stars cost 240,000gns and you would hope he could go a bit. This trip should be ideal and the stable has been going well.

15:00 Newmarket – Creative Force
Up to Group 3 class for the Abernant over 6f. Very hard to oppose CREATIVE FORCE who is a Group 1 sprinter on a going day and is very consistent. Placed at the Breeders’ Cup and in the Champions Sprint at Ascot the ground should be ideal and he’ll be very hard to stop for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. I’ll be very surprised if he’s beaten even though he lacks the race fitness of some of these.
15:35 Newmarket – The Foxes
2000 Guineas Classic clues with the Group 3 Craven Stakes for 3yo colts over 1m. I’ll chance THE FOXES for Oisin Murphy and Andrew Balding as the form of Mysterious Night is not amazing in this country. My hope came of age at the end of last season banging in the Royal Lodge at Newmarket after landing a maiden at Goodwood. That form looks quite solid with the runner-up doing well after in France when landing a Group 1 and hopefully The Foxes can continue to improve.
