13:20 – Marie Laveau

MARIE LAVEAU is bred to be useful and showed plenty to work on when hitting the frame in a traditionally strong contest at Newbury on debut last month. She ended up on the outer flank away from the action which didn’t help and she just wanted for a bit of know-how when push came to shove. That form is already working out and Marie Laveau is entitled to take a big step forward now. The 5 lb she receives from penalised-winner Tiamat may prove decisive, while Mexicali Rose and Hopeful are a couple of interesting newcomers.

13:55 – Silver Nightfall

It wasn’t an overly strong race that SILVER NIGHTFALL finished runner-up in on debut at Yarmouth in August, but she finished in front of two subsequent winners, and is entitled to come on for that experience. She showed clear signs of greenness in the closing stages but wasn’t knocked about and can show the benefit of that now. A newcomer may emerge as the biggest threat, with Mammas Girl, Sub Rosa and Ribla all making appeal on paper.

14:25 – Greek Order

GREEK ORDER is from a good family – he is a brother to very smart winner up to a mile and a quarter Sangarius – and he shaped with significant promise when a well-backed favourite on debut at Salisbury last month. He was too green to justify his short odds, given a patient ride after dwelling at the start and making stylish progress into the race around two furlongs out. Greek Order seems sure to progress for that initial experience, perhaps significantly so, and he makes plenty of appeal.  Regal Honour, who also made a good impression on debut over course and distance, looks the obvious danger.

15:00 – Sir Laurence Graff

SIR LAURENCE GRAFF doesn’t seem to be progressing as expected, but he was beaten by a subsequent listed winner two starts back, and bumped into a useful rival at Chelmsford three weeks ago. In the expectation there isn’t a rival of that calibre here, he should be able to get off the mark at the fifth attempt. Midnight Lion was disappointing at Pontefract but is a definite player if shrugging that off, with Mildyjama another to consider.

15:35 – Forceful Speed

It is tough to rule out any of the septet, but FORCEFUL SPEED put his experience to good use when making all in a Pontefract novice just over a fortnight ago and, back in handicap company today, George Boughey’s improving colt is fancied to notch career success number three for a yard that continue to bang in the winners. One World beat the selection at Newcastle last month but he meets the selection on worse terms now.

16:10 – Queenlet

There are a few in with chances but the percentage call is to side with QUEENLET, who was very strong at the finish when scoring over seven furlongs at Musselburgh last week, and can defy a 6 lb penalty now moving back up to a mile. My Silent Song wasn’t seen to best effect when runner-up at Pontefract last time and heads the list of dangers, although Ashky, Nigwa and Light of Peace need shortlisting too.

16:45 – Military Order

MILITARY ORDER and Rebel Red are both bred to be smart and they showed plenty of promise on their recent debut runs. The former should relish the step up to a mile being a brother to Derby winner Adayar and is narrowly preferred, though Rebel Red, himself a brother to Group 1 winner Without Parole, has plenty about him physically and may take a big step forward. Serengeti Sunset and Ancient Rules, a stablemate of the selection, are just two newcomers who make paper appeal in what promises to be an informative contest.

17:20 – On The Pulse

ON THE PULSE was on the up prior to a luckless run at Catterick last time and she’s worth a chance to resume progress and gain her second career success. Menalippe seems likely to go well under a typically positive ride and Dream of Mischief is one to note having surged to the front late at Lingfield recently.
