13:35 – Meredif
MEREDIF still looked in need of the experience when sixth on her handicap debut at York in May, merely plugging on after being shaken up entering the final furlong. She seems sure to do better with that run under her belt and this is a weaker race than the one she contested at York. She boasted some strong form as a two-year-old and there should certainly be more races to be won with her from a BHA mark of 79.

14:05 – Sea King
SEA KING looked a smart prospect when making a successful handicap debut at Doncaster in April, hitting the front over a furlong out and steadily drawing clear from there to win by three lengths with plenty in hand. The manner of that victory suggests he was full value for a 9 lb rise in the weights and there should be lots more to come from him. He is certainly in the right hands to go on improving and this looks a good opportunity for him to follow up before going on to bigger and better things.
14:40 – Eshaada
ESHAADA ended her three-year-old season on a high with victory in the Fillies’ & Mares’ Stakes at Ascot, producing a career best to beat Albaflora by a short head. Admittedly, she wasn’t in the same form on her reappearance at Newbury in May, but that run is likely to have blown the cobwebs away. She is clearly a very smart filly on her day and a repeat of her Ascot form will give her every chance of resuming winning ways on these terms.
15:15 – Liverpool Knight
LIVERPOOL KNIGHT showed much improved form when making a successful reappearance at Windsor last month, quickening clear in the final two furlongs to win by three and a quarter lengths in impressive fashion. That was his first start for Kevin Philippart de Foy (formerly trained by Alan King) and just the eleventh of his career. Still lightly raced for his age, he looks set for a rewarding campaign and a 6 lb higher mark is unlikely to prove beyond him in his follow-up bid.

15:50 – Sunny Orange
SUNNY ORANGE has shown plenty of ability in his two starts to date, making a winning debut at Leicester in April and then running to a similar level in defeat when third at Salisbury last time. He was beaten just two and a half lengths on the last occasion and the way he shaped there suggests the step up to six furlongs today could eke out a bit more improvement. This will also be his nursery debut and a BHA mark of 81 looks a very fair starting point.
16:25 – Young Fire
YOUNG FIRE took a big step back in the right direction when filling the runner-up spot on his reappearance at York three weeks ago, staying on well to pass the post just half a length behind the winner. He lines up today from just a 1 lb higher mark and the return to Haydock seems certain to be in his favour. After all, three of his five wins for David O’Meara have come at this venue, including when winning this race 12 months ago from a 3 lb lower mark.

16:55 – Spirit Of Nguru
SPIRIT OF NGURU was last seen recording back-to-back wins at Kempton towards the end of 2021, first getting off the mark in novice company in November and then progressing further to defy a penalty in a similar event 16 days later. He is clearly useful and it’s still early days in his career, so he may yet have more to offer. With that in mind, he remains one to keep on the right now making the switch to handicaps from an opening BHA mark of 89.
