Sandown stages the next Group 1 of the season with a potentially star-studded field set to go to post in the Coral-Eclipse.

The Coral-Eclipse – run over 1m2f – is one of the most lucrative races on the UK Flat racing calendar with a £750,000 prize pot to be dished out in this year’s renewal.

St Mark’s Basilica beat three rivals including Mishriff 12 months ago but he will not be back to defend his crown after being retired to stud at the end of last season.

You’ll find all the key details about the Coral-Eclipse including the date, start time, runners and riders, and Paddy Power’s betting odds below.

Coral-Eclipse 2022 date and start time

The Coral-Eclipse 2022 is scheduled to be run on Saturday, July 2 at 3.35pm. It is the fourth race on the card at Sandown. The official going is described as Good, Good to Firm (in places) ahead of the meeting.

Lord North (James Doyle)
Mishriff (David Egan)
Native Trail (William Buick)
Vadeni (Christophe Soumillon)

Coral-Eclipse 2022 odds

Vadeni, who is set to be supplemented at a cost of £50,000, heads Paddy Power’s betting market for the Coral-Eclipse. The Churchill colt is on a hat-trick after scoring in the Prix de Guiche before routing his rivals in the French Derby earlier this month.

Irish 2000 Guineas winner Native Trail is next in the betting ahead of his first crack at a mile and a quarter. Charlie Appleby’s charge was a narrow second to stablemate Coroebus in April’s 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

Bay Bridge was a beaten favourite on his maiden effort at Group 1 level in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot 2022 but has course-and-distance form in the book after winning last month’s Brigadier Gerard Stakes and is third in the betting.
