Double O has the best form having gone close on both starts but this could go to FOX DEGREE, who should have learnt a lot from her debut at Bath and whose trainer Ralph Beckett has an impressive 33% strike-rate with 2yos here (9-27). Improvement is needed from Marine Lake but her pedigree suggests she’ll be interesting when tackling slow ground.

18:30 – Corinthia Knight

On the back of an encouraging fifth at Windsor three weeks ago, CORINTHIA KNIGHT can capitalise on a much-reduced mark at a venue where he has won three times from four visits. There have been promising signs from Kapono the last twice and he’s feared most, while Macho Pride, Catesby and six-time course winner Round The Island are others to consider.

19:00 – Matchless

Charging Thunder has been runner-up on all three starts this year and deserves another win, but MATCHLESS also arrives in good form and this prominent racer may a tactical advantage in today’s small field. The lightly raced King Francis can also be involved if transferring his AW form to turf.

19:30 – Elegant Erin

A warm little race for the grade. Top of the list is ELEGANT ERIN (nap), who has been reinvented as a sprinter and arrives on the back of two 5f wins. She can provide trainer Paul Midgley with a fourth consecutive win in this race. The in-form King Of Tonga is 2-2 over C&D and is second choice now back here, while the consistent Stalingrad could again be thereabouts.

20:00 – Bit Of A Quirke

Dandy’s Angel can have a say if her usual slow start is not as dramatically bad as was the case at Hamilton recently, but BIT OF A QUIRKE is a safer option. He went close at Ripon last time and has run well here in the past. Zoom Zoom Babe, Mahanakhon Power and Bavardages all arrive following good performances and are also in the shake-up.

20:30 – Dereham

Slow ground would be a plus for DEREHAM, who bolted up on good to soft going here in April, and there can be optimism he’ll get his conditions in view of the wet overnight weather forecast. His old rival Wynford could be the main danger, while fellow course winner Arabescato will have plenty in his favour if a sound surface prevails (unproven on slow ground).

An interesting race for the grade. Fiftyshadesaresdev will be popular after his near miss at York but that came at a cost of 5lb. My Silent Song is perhaps as solid as any after running well behind progressive opposition at Nottingham but a chance is taken on the handicap debutant VEE SIGHT, who is bred to be a lot better than his mark and there was promise in last season’s qualifying runs.
