13:50 Newmarket – Ottoman Fleet

Godolphin’s runner Ottoman Fleet was settled right at the back on his racecourse debut and he did remarkably well to finish as close as he did after making up a huge amount of ground over the final quarter mile. He now takes a jump up in grade but should take that in his stride for a yard in red-hot form.

14:10 Newbury – Without A Fight

Without A Fight could well prove the answer to this tricky puzzle. He’s fit and is only just off the plane having recently run two very solid races in Dubai. He was only just beaten by Hukum and then last time in Group 1 company he was only beaten 5l by Shahryar. He’s dropping in grade and the top two, Scope and Eshaada, both have to carry the Group 1 penalties.

14:25 Newmarket – Haymaker

Haymaker did well to hold on over 7f last time out at Newmarket and the drop down to 6f won’t be a problem. The handicapper has had his say to the tune of a 6lb hike and quite rightly the trainer Hughie Morrison decides to take off a valuable 7lb with Harry Davies to negate that. It’s a smart move for a yard in form.

14:45 Newbury – Israr

Israr beat a few decent types on his racecourse debut at Doncaster and then bumped into a fairly smart rival in Wind Your Neck In on only his second try at Salisbury. Israr looked as if he hadn’t skipped a meal for his return to action at HQ and did really well despite not handling the dip to finish a close-up third. Given natural improvement on a more conventional galloping track like Newbury, he can climb a good way up the ladder from a lowly-looking 89 rating.

15:00 Newmarket – Quintillus

Quintillus has got plenty of raw natural pace and this intermediate distance seems to suit him well. He previously ran a cracker in the Britannia Stakes at the Royal meeting and although disappointing on his only try over in Dubai, he can regain the winning thread now back on home soil. Don’t be surprised to see Humanitarian leave his previous run well behind and I’m tempted to have something each-way on the outsider of the field as cover!

15:20 Newbury – Alcohol Free (each-way)

It’s all about the red-hot fav Baaeed maintaining his unbeaten record. However, from a punting perspective, the superstar Alcohol Free is majorly overlooked as an each-way player. She looked a lot better for her return to action at Sandown and ran a nice race without being knocked about. She barely saw any daylight for most of the hill at Sandown. She will be dropped in on this occasion and her telling change of gear late on can prove decisive, to get a slice and maybe the whole pie.
