15:50 – West Coast

Markaz Paname ran really well in listed company at Dundalk in October and he was a good winner on his debut at Cork. He’s been gelded since then for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane. They normally kick off the opening weekend in good style. He’s at the top of the weights alongside West Coast, who won last time out at Leopardstown. If he’s fully tuned up, then he could be hard to beat. He looked a really progressive horse coming round the bend at Leopardstown. Keep an eye on Aidan O’Brien’s other runners this weekend, especially Mother Earth, to see if his horses are up to speed.

16:25 – Patrick Sarsfield

This is a great race and clearly Noel Meade has decided that Luke Short is going to win the Lincoln on Saturday so there’s no need to run two in it! Therefore, Layfayette comes here. I’m a big fan of Jason The Militant but drying ground and the 10f trip isn’t ideal. The one I landed on is Patrick Sarsfield. His record fresh is good and the step up in class could help him. He is a genuine group performer and he should be ready to rock here. His experience should count for a lot.

17:30 – French Claim

This is a pretty trappy race and Alizarine for Jess Harrington has to be respected but I’m on French Claim, who won first time out at Listowel back in September. He followed that up with a good run at Leopardstown and I feel he’s a group horse.

Fran Berry’s best bets:

15:50 – West Coast
16:25 – Patrick Sarsfield
17:30 – French Claim
