Haydock 15:55 – Muscika

This race is part of the apprentice ‘training series’, and while whips will be carried, they won’t be used. The selection runs well for ‘hands and heels’ riding and jockey Saffie Osborne is fresh of a big victory in the racing league earlier at Doncaster. The going at Haydock should suit as there is quite a bit of rain around and Muscika loves some dig underfoot.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Curragh 16:10 – Dr Zenpf

We switch to the Group 1 6f Keenland Phoenix Stakes in Ireland where Dr Zenpf was unable to keep his unbeaten record intact when chasing home Go Bears Go last time over course and distance. Go Bears Go lines up again but Dr Zenpf was stopped in his tracks when just getting going that day and was still quite clearly learning on the job. He might just surprise the David Loughnane runner this time as he looks a typical improver from the Ger Lyons’ stable so is bound to take a step forward for Lyons and Colin Keane.

Haydock 16:25 – True Mason

The handicapper has finally given True Mason a chance and he runs off a very tempting mark of just 75 as he tries to produce his first win for three years. Ground conditions are absolutely fine and his overall course form is not too shabby either. He travels ominously well in his races and can be produced late in the day without knowing he’s had a race.

Haydock 16:50 – Jakks Groove

No form to go on in this newcomers’ maiden over 6f so we’ll rely on some trainer / jockey form instead. Karl Burke’s runners normally know their job first time out PJ McDonald has been booked to ride. Let’s hope Jakks Groove has read the memo.

Haydock-Park Flat Battash

Haydock 17:20 – Sovereign Prince

Charlie Appleby’s runner has been hitting a flat spot over 6 furlongs when the pace quickens. so the step up to 7 furlongs will  definitely suit. The return to softer conditions should also massively suit  Sovereign Prince and the Appleby yard are in red-hot form at the moment. He could be over-priced.

Haydock 17:45 – Deep Sigh

David Simcock’s three-year-old makes the long trip north again after she gained her first win at Doncaster last month. Saffie Osborne comes in for the ride and takes 5lbs off her back now and Deep Sigh can go close to recording back-to-back wins off a light weight with an in-form jockey aboard.

Haydock 18:15 – Just Hiss (Each-Way)

He was beaten a long way by Danyah and Brentford Hope a couple of times here but there was no shame in that as they have gone and proven themselves at a high level. Still, Just Hiss is looking for his first victory over this 1m 2f trip, but has gone close a few times. The ground by this later stage of the meeting will be well turned over and his ability to handle it will be a bonus.

Haydock 18:40 – Vis A Vis

He was such a talking horse when he originally came over from France and was punted a few times in some very decent staying handicaps. The fingers were burnt on more than one occasions, but Vis A Vis he now finds himself dangerously well weighted on a mark of 77. He also put in an eye-catching run last time over a slightly shorter distance at Ascot. The trip, track and ground all look major positives today.

Jason Weaver’s best bets:

Haydock 15:55 – Muscika
Curragh 16:10 – Dr Zenpf
Haydock 16:25 – True Mason
Haydock 16:50 – Jakks Groove
Haydock 17:20 – Sovereign Prince
Haydock 17:45 – Deep Sigh
Haydock 18:15 – Just Hiss (Each-Way)
Haydock 18:40 – Vis A Vis
