The Summer Festival at Galway Races kicks off today and Ado McGuinness took some time out of his preparations to take us through a few of his horses’s chances on a special From The Horse’s Mouth podcast.
Eglish, Lariat and War Hero all go today and the overnight rain has seen changing fortunes for this trio. It’s good news for Lariat but less so for Eglish who would have liked better ground.
But with the action getting underway this evening, McGuinness is hopeful that his horses will go well as he gives us his verdict on the trio’s chances. You can listen to the interview, as well as tonnes of other tips and insight ahead of a busy week, below.
14:40 Eglish
Eglish would have been hoping for better ground, but she’s a real honest filly. She gives her all every time she runs, ran a very good race the other day in Naas from drawn wide so we’re hopeful that she will act on the ground, but she’s the one I’d put a question mark over with ground.
17:45 War Hero
War Hero ran very well down there last year and he’s down a few pounds as well so we’d be hopeful that he’ll run a nice race. The draw is kind to him as well which is a huge factor there over seven.
18:15 Lariat
Listen, we’ve had a lot of rain there last night, we’ve a lot of rain here in Dublin. But I think there’s 16mm of rain last night, the ground has gone soft – it will suit Lariat, I think he’s crying out for soft ground. He’s dropped a few pounds in the handicap, I’d be hoping that he’d run a nice race. A mile and a half, he’ll definitely love the trip.
