RIVER DAWN was twice successful on the all-weather at Lingfield earlier this year and he was by no means disgraced when failing to complete the hat-trick on turf at Pontefract last week.
He was beaten less than a length in third, shaping as if he’d have benefited from a stronger gallop as he stayed on well.
That effort showed that he is on a competitive mark and there looks to be enough pace in this race to allow River Dawn to show his full worth. The good form of the Paul and Oliver Cole yard is another positive.
EMPLOYER is on a long losing run, but he hasn’t been with the excellent Richard Newland for long and is on an appealing mark.
He was strong in the betting and sent off at just 3/1 in a competitive Newbury handicap on his debut for the yard, but he shaped as if he would be better for the run – finding less than had looked likely after travelling with zest and moving smoothly into contention.
Plenty of encouragement can be taken from that effort and Newland, who has an excellent record with recruits, may be able to find the key to him.
DYAGILEV was in excellent form before racing was halted, finishing runner-up at Kempton either side of winning at Chelmsford, and he found only one too strong on his recent reappearance at Lingfield to prove he has returned in excellent heart.
He needs to show he is as effective over this trip, but he certainly shapes as if he will stay, so he should give another good account from the same mark.
Awesomedude is the obvious danger as he has relatively few miles on the clock and was well backed on his first start for James Ferguson at Beverley. He failed to meet expectations on that occasion, but is clearly thought capable of better.
