Horse Racing Tips: Paddy Power trader’s two best bets at Randwick on Saturday

Paddy Power international racing trader Conor Murphy runs through his best bets for the meeting at Randwick this weekend

5.20am – Holyfield @ 13/2

Kings Legacy will probably go off the short-priced favourite in the Champagne Stakes at around 13/8, and as much as I like him, I think that’s just too short so I’m going to have to leave him alone.

I’d take him on with Holyfield. I’m really sweet on Holyfield – he won a Group 3 at Rose Hill the last day and Tom Marquand and himself are just made for each other. Marquand is a far more aggressive rider than a lot of the Aussie lads in the weighing room. He got the lead the last day and just kept him off the bridle. I could see something similar today with the extra furlong and the stiffer track.

When he turns for home in front it’s going to be very difficult to pass him. He’ll be around a 13/2 shot and I think he’s a cracking bet against the front two in the market.

6.40am – Dreamforce @ 8/1

The Schweppes All Aged Stakes is a very open market, and sums up the spread we’re seeing in Australia at the moment.

You have the likes of Santa Ana Lane, Bivouac and Pierata all there and thereabouts at 7/2 in the market. Santa Ana Lane is very solid and he’s had his days but you just have to wonder, are his best days behind him now? He’s a seven-year-old.

Bivouac I wouldn’t trust at all. I just don’t know where the three-year-old’s sprinting form is at. He’s had more hard luck stories this season than you would like to see in a horse coming in with that price.

Pierata is the most likely winner, and I’d have him as favourite for these. Should come on from the run in the TJ Smith Stakes a couple of weeks ago. He did finish behind Santa Ana Lane that day but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he turned that around.

But the one I’d come down on here is Dreamforce. In much the same angle as Holyfield, I think there’s a bit of a soft lead up for grabs here.

This fella has won a Group 1 race just short of mile so it’s a little worry that he’s dropping back to six furlongs but I just don’t think there’s a leader here, and a stiff finish at Randwick should play into his hands.

If he turns for home in front, I think he will be really hard to catch and I think he is a decent bet against the front three, who are pretty muddled up. I think he’s an 8/1 shot and I think he’s a cracking bet against them.
