Auteuil 2.05: Why today’s Prix Wild Monarch is worth live streaming on Paddy Power

A future star could emerge!

State Man. Gaelic Warrior. Sir Gino. What do they all have in common?

Yes, you probably guessed they are all Grade 1 winners but there’s a less-obvious profile that they all share.

Well, all three started their racing careers in France and took in the Prix Wild Monarch at Auteuil.

It is a maiden hurdle over 1m7f for three-year-old colts and geldings, with prize money worth £53,913 to the winner, so it is hardly surprising that it throws up future stars of the game.

State Man finished second behind Busselton, who subsequently moved to Joseph O’Brien’s yard and has scooped £262,392 in prize money, in the 2020 renewal.

The son of Doctor Dino was then bought by top owner Marie Donnelly and shipped off to Willie Mullins, where he has since won nine Grade 1s including this season’s Champion Hurdle.

Gaelic Warrior could only finish sixth in the 2021 edition of the Prix Wild Monarch but he has gone on to become one of the best horses in the game.

Gaelic Warrior

Rich Ricci got out his chequebook a couple of runs later and the son of Maxios was tipped by many as the banker of the 2022 Cheltenham Festival but contrived to lose to Brazil in the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle off a mark of 129.

Gaelic Warrior has since landed three Grade 1s for Willie Mullins including last month’s Arkle Chase and is the antepost favourite in Paddy Power’s betting for the 2024 King George VI Chase.

Sir Gino claimed the spoils in last year’s renewal of the Prix Wild Monarch and has looked a monster in three starts since moving to Nicky Henderson’s yard. The juvenile claimed the Grade 1 Boodles Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree last week.

Who will emerge as the latest superstar from the Prix Wild Monarch?

Debutant Lecoeurdeshommes is vying with Lucero – who won once from two starts on the Flat last term – for favouritism in Paddy Power’s betting for today’s Auteuil 2.05.

You can live stream the Prix Wild Monarch completely free on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app.
