The Gold Cup is the biggest race of the week at the Cheltenham Festival with the leading staying chasers in the game slugging it out.
A Plus Tard – trained by Henry de Bromhead and ridden by Rachael Blackmore – landed last year’s renewal thanks to an electric turn of foot and is bidding to overcome a challenging season to date by joining the elite club of multiple winners.
Jumps racing’s most prestigious event is run over an extended 3m2f on the tricky New Course at Cheltenham Racecourse and only the cream of the crop get to add their name to the illustrious honours list.

The Willie Mullins-trained Galopin Des Champs, who won the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle in 2021, is the hot favourite with Paddy Power to land the Gold Cup after wowing in his novice chasing campaign and beginning this season with an electric performance in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase before landing the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup.
Defending champion A Plus Tard is also prominent in the betting despite missing the Savills Chase on vet’s advice and being pulled up on seasonal reappearance in the Betfair Chase.
Bravemansgame has emerged as a principal player in our market after an impressive victory in the King George VI Chase, which prompted trainer Paul Nicholls to commit the gelding to running in the Blue Riband.
