Honeysuckle is set to make her long-awaited seasonal debut in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Sunday.
The Champion Hurdle queen is the hot favourite with Paddy Power to continue her incredible unbeaten run over flights. Henry de Bromhead’s superstar mare will face a maximum of 10 rivals as she bids to make it a hat-trick of wins in the Grade 1 contest.
Honeysuckle’s biggest dangers are likely to come from Willie Mullins’ yard as the Closutton handler boasts three entries.
2019 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Klassical Dream successfully stepped up to 3m when winning the Champion Stayers Hurdle at Punchestown in April so the 2m 4f trip could suit.
Saldier was 15l behind Honeysuckle in this year’s Champion Hurdle but is in flying form after landing the Galway Hurdle and Horse & Jockey Hotel Hurdle. Stormy Ireland completes the trio of entrants.
Gordon Elliott’s leading hope is Abacadabras, who scored over distance when beating Buzz by 1¼l in April’s Aintree Hurdle. The seven-year-old was a distant fourth behind Honeysuckle in the Paddy Power Champion Hurdle at Punchestown three weeks later, however. Last year’s Lismullen Hurdle winner, Sire Du Berlais, also holds an entry for the yard.
Ronald Pump hit the post in last year’s Hatton’s Grace Hurdle when finishing ½l off Honeysuckle and could have another stab at it, although the eight-year-old has not been first past the post over hurdles since April 2019.
Darasso, Latest Exhibition, Sams Profile and Skyace complete the potential runners ahead of final declarations on Friday.
