Trainer: Sir Michael Stoute Jockey: Ryan Moore Age: 7 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Second in this race in 2019 and again arrived too late on the scene when filling the same position 12 months ago. Proved well-being with easy win in Windsor listed contest last month so solid claims.
Progressed well when winning five times in 2020, including in Champions Sprint over C&D. Left impression would come on for his return at the Curragh last month, but others hold more appealing claims.
Trainer: David O’Meara Jockey: Daniel Tudhope Age: 7 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Already a dual winner in 2021 in AW Sprint Championships at Lingfield and Abernant Stakes at Newmarket. Ran respectably when fourth to Starman in the Duke of York Stakes last time but more needed.
Trainer: Kevin Ryan Jockey: Andrea Atzeni Age: 5 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Won Gimcrack Stakes but has come up short in pattern company since, though ran a cracker when third in Palace House. Well held behind Starman in the Duke of York Stakes though and has work to do.
Trainer: Andrew Balding Jockey: Jim Crowley Age: 5 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Ended 2020 with a below-par effort in the Champions Sprint. Should be suited by this drop in trip (has been well beaten by Palace Pier on both starts at 1m this season) but others look stronger.
Trainer: Charles Hills Jockey: James Doyle Age: 5 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Smart sprinter who arrives on the back of a good second to Dream of Dreams in Windsor listed event last time, but he was getting 7 lb from the winner, so he has his work cut out on level terms now.
Trainer: P. Twomey Jockey: William James Lee Age: 5 Weight: 9st 0lbs
Gained first pattern success in the Ballyogan Stakes at the Curragh earlier this month, knuckling down well after a slow start. Can’t knock her attitude, but much more needed to follow up here.
Recorded a career-best effort when making a winning return in a listed event at Doncaster in March (by one and three quarter lengths from Emaraaty Ana), but he now needs to prove he can build on it.
Trainer: Richard Fahey Jockey: Paul Hanagan Age: 4 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Thrown in at the deep end but ran with credit when fifth to Starman in the Duke of York Stakes, especially as he ended up away from where the main action unfolded. Goes well here, and no forlorn hope.
Trainer: William Haggas Jockey: Tom Marquand Age: 5 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Landed a gamble when winning Ayr Gold Cup last autumn and looked a high-class sprinter on return when beaten a neck by Starman in the Duke of York Stakes. Has more to offer and high on the shortlist.
Won Nad Al Sheba Turf Sprint at Meydan in March and second in Al Quoz Sprint on her next start. Failed to translate that form back to these shores in Duke Of York Stakes though. Others preferred.
Trainer: Tim Easterby Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa Age: 4 Weight: 9st 3lbs
Signed off 2020 with good runs in the Sprint Cup at Haydock and Champions Sprint but too free when only sixth to Starman in the Duke of York Stakes on return last month and needs to raise his game.
Has come a long way in a short space of time and landed Duke of York Stakes last month, always finding more when Nahaarr challenged and winning with a bit in hand. Progressive, and the one to beat.
