Frankie Dettori is the 5/4 favourite to be Royal Ascot’s leading jockey this week – and this afternoon looks to make history when he takes the ride of Stradivarius in the Gold Cup.
The even-money shot bids to join Yeats as the only thoroughbred to win the Gold Cup four times.
Hollie Doyle is reunited with Champions Day winner Trueshan, having already bagged an Ascot winner this week courtesy of 33/1 shot Amtiyaz in the Copper Horse Stakes on Tuesday.
And we’ve seen our punters rushing to support Doyle over Dettori in today’s feature race. Trueshan has been backed in from 6/1 to 9/2 as the money continues to come for him.
Hollie, the Queen of Flat Racing, is aiming for just the second Group 1 win of her career after guiding Glen Shiel to victory in the Sprint Cup on Champions Weekend at Ascot last October.
She won 117 races last year – a record for a female jockey – and has twice ridden five-timers on a card, at Windsor last August and at Kempton in March.
Spokesperson Paddy Power said: “I don’t want to make Frankie feel old, but he’d already won this race twice before Hollie was even born.
“Racing’s greatest showman now has 75 Royal Ascot winners to his name, but punters can’t get enough of Hollie Doyle. After watching Rachael Blackmore’s epic Cheltenham and then her Grand National win, they’re backing Hollie to prove once again being a fearless jockey isn’t all about having balls.”
