Galway v Mayo

Sunday, 3pm
TV: RTE 2

Mayo To Win By 1-3pts
Both teams have misfired a little bit over the last few weeks, both lost last weekend and it’s a little bit of an ideal way of going into a match like this because the manager will have a stick to beat you with. Obviously one of these teams is going to be out of the Championship come five o’clock so it’s a huge game.

Galway last weekend just weren’t good. There’s a big doubt over Sean Kelly, not just at the back because he got forward and scored a point last weekend and it’ll be a huge loss if he doesn’t make it because he drives them forward and helps create chances. Dylan McHugh didn’t start last weekend as well, Damien Comer and Rob Finnerty also didn’t start and Shane Walsh’s form isn’t what he’d like it to be either.

The game’s in Galway but I’d have to favour Mayo, I think they’ve a little bit more potential to up their performance. They have nothing to play for last weekend, they were already through but I think they have a bit more firepower upfront when compared to Galway at the moment so I’d back Mayo to Win By 1-3 points.

Ryan O’Donoghue First Goalscorer
Mayo definitely carry the goal threat here and have done all year. Tommy Conroy obviously score first last weekend but Ryan O’Donoghue has hit the back on the net on numerous occasions throughout the year so far. I think he’s start and when games open up he’s a massive threat.

Matty Forde’s Other GAA Betting Tips

Saturday

Cork v Roscommon, 2pm
Cork to Win
I like what Cork have done over the last number of weeks. They really put it up to Louth as well recently and were unfortunate against Kerry. I’d have to back Cork to Win here, particularly with home advantage.

Kildare v Monaghan, 4:45pm
Monaghan to Win
Monaghan will be happy this is being played in a neutral venue. Kildare have been really inconsistent this year, following really good performances with bad ones. They were good against Roscommon last weekend but Roscommon were already through. It’s Monaghan to Win here for me, they’ve come back well since that Ulster defeat against Derry and they shade it for me.

Donegal v Tyrone, 7pm
Donegal to Win
Both sides will fancy themselves here and both have had decent performances over the round robin. I think Donegal are starting to get momentum at the right time and it looks like they’re putting out their strongest team now. I’ll take Donegal to Win.

Sunday
Meath v Antrim, 2pm
Meath to Win
Antrim are in good form, finishing top of their group, they were very good overall while Meath put up a huge score against Wexford last weekend, scoring 2-20 from play. I’d have to go with Meath, I think they’ve just about enough to get over the line here.

Down v Laois, 4pm
Down to Win
I think this’ll be tight. Laois beat Limerick last weekend but really, Limerick threw it away with all their missed chances. I think their exploits will catch up with them here and Croke Park will suit Down’s game better so I’m picking Down to Win.
