Gaelic Football tips: Colm O’Rourke’s feisty 5/2 double for Saturday’s ties

The Championship throws in on Saturday and Colm has punched out some bets for us.

13:15 Cavan v Monaghan: Cavan (+4)

This is certainly the headline bout of Saturday’s fixtures as Monaghan welcome Cavan to Clones in the Preliminary Round of the Ulster Senior Football Championship. Both sides come into the tie in mixed form. Monaghan drew with Meath at home last weekend, while Cavan were turned over at Kingspan Breffni Park by Roscommon.

That was a terrible result for Cavan as it relegated them to Division 3 of the National League and has them staring at the new second-tier championship in 2021 as a consequence. That means they will travel to Clones this weekend with low morale.

I’m expecting a home win for Monaghan, but I believe Paddy has been too generous with the handicap on Cavan here. A handicap (+4) for Cavan, is a bit too much for Monaghan to beat and we should see a tight affair in this game. The weather conditions are set to be poor as well, and that will play a part on keeping the scoreline close. This should be a low-scoring contest.

19:00 Waterford v Limerick: Limerick (-3)

Limerick are bouncing heading down to Dungarvan this weekend after securing promotion to Division 3 of the National League last week. The Treaty County secured an impressive win away at Sligo to move up the tiers, while their hosts on Saturday – Waterford – were beaten by Antrim in their previous outing.

Limerick are the hot favourites to win this game and I believe they’ll beat the (-3) handicap put in front of them by Paddy too. That prospect is just too tempting for me to pass up, and that’s why it forms the second part of my Saturday double.
