Dundee +1.5

Rangers find their title hopes on the line as they visit Dens Park on Wednesday to face Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.

This will be the third attempt to get this match played, with the encounter twice called off previously at short notice. Though the weather should make this game possible, the difficult state of the pitch remains and issue, and will surely play into the hands of the home team.

Recent matches at the Tayside venue have seen teams forced to adopt a more direct style than they are accustomed to, and with Rangers the more technical outfit, Philippe Clement’s side will be forced into the greater changes.

Indeed, this match can be viewed in isolation to the two previous wins the Gers have managed against the Dark Blues this season because of the surface.

After surprisingly losing to Ross County at the weekend, Rangers need this victory, which they should get, but it will be hard work.

(+1.5)

Both teams to score

Goals at both ends of the park look likely in this encounter. Dundee may be conceding regularly, but they are also scoring in virtually every match they play at present. Since being shut out at home in a 5-0 loss against Rangers on November 1, they have only twice failed to find the net in a Premiership match, albeit one of these was at the weekend against Aberdeen.

The Gers’ defence isn’t at its best right now, either. Clement’s side have conceded in their last five league games, with their last clean sheet coming in February. They were shambolic against Ross County at the weekend, conceding three in Dingwall, in easier conditions than they will face here.

4 or more cards

Matches between the pair have been fiery affairs this season with a total of 10 cards shown across the two games. Seven of those have been to Dundee players, with the Dark Blues expected appear in the referee’s notebook regularly in this game.

Again, the pitch is likely to play its part. With the ball not running smoothly and the surface slippery, it will invite defensive mistakes, the type of which are likely to be severely punished by referee Don Robertson.

James Tavernier to score anytime

With 17 goals for the season in the Premiership, James Tavernier continues to be vital for Rangers offensively, even if his defensive qualities are under scrutiny following the shock loss at the weekend.

The right back’s incredible scoring form is unrelenting. He has scored in his last five Premiership matches and has seven in his last seven. He has also netted in both previous matches against Dundee from the penalty spot.

11 or more corners

No team in the Premiership concedes more corners than Dundee, who on average are giving up 7.2 corners per game at Dens Park.

With balls likely to be launched constantly into both boxes in this game, because of the state of the surface, both defences are likely to be forced into evasive action on numerous occasions.

Conditions should ensure there is a higher-than-normal corner count for both teams, and given that 67% of Dundee’s home games this season have yielded 11 or more corners, this looks like an excellent value bet.
