Both Teams to Score

Ateltico Madrid barely laid a glove on Inter Milan in the first leg and now face an uphill task if they are to qualify for the last eight of the Champions League. Diego Simeone’s side need to score at least once on Wednesday to keep the tie alive but will realistically need to score at least twice considering Inter Milan’s recent goalscoring record.

The runaway Serie A leaders have found the back of the net in each of their last 17 games in all competitions and have scored a hugely impressive 70 goals in the league.

Atletico, meanwhile, have conceded 31 times in the league this season and have conceded in each of their last five games. It stands to reason that they will concede again on Wednesday. At the other end, Simeone’s side have scored in all but one of their 20 home games this season, scoring an impressive 50 goals.

They register no shots on target in the first leg but will likely put Inter under far more pressure on Wednesday and should find the back of the net. Whether or not that will be enough is another question.

Atletico Madrid – Corners Match Bet

Atletico Madrid managed a paltry seven shots in the first leg three weeks ago, failing to hit the target once. They also won just two corners in an incredibly limp display and it is something of a miracle that the tie is still alive. They simply have to be more assertive and dominant on Wednesday night in front of their own fans it is highly likely that they will put Inter under significant pressure.

Simeone’s side average over six corners per home game in the Champions League this season, while Inter average just over four corners per game in the competition. It would be highly surprising if they didn’t win more corners on Wednesday.

Over 2.5 Atletico Madrid Cards

Atletico Madrid are not the same shithousing team that took the world by storm ten years ago, but they still remain abrasive enough to pick up at least three cards on Wednesday. Simeone’s side have picked up 16 bookings and one red card in the Champions League to date – well over two cards per game – and have received 58 bookings and three sending offs in 28 La Liga games.

They received four bookings in the first-leg defeat to Inter and are probably likely to repeat that number, regardless of the outcome.

If Atletico find the tie is slipping away from them, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them pick up cards out of frustration, while it would be equally unsurprising to see them pick up cards for time-wasting if the tie is going in their favour.

Borussia Dortmund v PSV
Champions League match at the Westfalenstadion, Dortmund
TV: TNT Sports, Wednesday, 8pm

Over 2.5 Goals

Both Borussia Dortmund and PSV have been amongst the goals this season. The German side emerged from a group of death containing Newcastle, PSG, and AC Milan after scoring a relatively low tally of seven goals, but they are averaging two goals per game in the Bundesliga, scoring 50 goals in 25 games. They have also conceded 31 goals at the other end.

PSV, meanwhile, have scored an incredible 80 league goals while conceding just 13. However, they have been less defensively sound in Europe, conceding 11 goals in seven games to date.

Both sides found the back of the net three weeks ago and it would be hugely surprising if history didn’t repeat itself on Wednesday.

PSV to have 6 or more Shots on Target

PSV peppered the Dortmund goal with shots three weeks ago, attempting 14 shots and finding the target on four occasions. The Dutch champions elect boast one of the highest shots per game averages in Europe this season, averaging almost 16 shots per game. They also average 5.6 shots on target per game – the fourth-highest record in the competition.

Dortmund, meanwhile, face an average of almost 15 shots per game, the third-highest average of any team to reach the knockout stages. They have faced 13 efforts on target in three home Champions League games so far, conceding a total of 42 shots (14 per game).
PSV will get chances on Wednesday night and could very easily hit the target half a dozen times.
