Mo Salah reached double-digits for league goals against Bournemouth while some of us may have been still wiping the sleep from our eyes – not insulting the boss at the Christmas party surely counts as a successful Friday night in December, whatever other damage was done.
But the Egyptian showed his true class after the match with a gesture that’ll only have further endeared him to Liverpool supporters and teammates, as if his record-goalscoring pace last season wasn’t enough.
His three goals in the 4-0 win made the man of the match award a formality, but last season’s player of the year decided his underappreciated midfield colleague James Milner merited the award more.

Credit to Sky for sharing the postmatch interview.
Salah said “He deserves it today, and I hope we are going to win something this season together, but I will not take it,” when presented with Sky’s award by Milner.
Liverpool hasn’t seen squad members appreciate each others efforts so much since David James said “anyone for cream suits?”
It was Milner’s goal on Wednesday night that sparked a second-half fightback at Turf Moor from 1-0 down, and weren’t we only saying the other day how the 32-year-old stalwart doesn’t get half as much credit for his play as he should.
Obviously Mo’s been reading the blog.
Any chance of a signed shirt lad?
