Oh ‘Eck! McLeish odds on for a Scotland return, after rivals ruled out

Big Eck possibly set for a second stint with the Tartan Army a decade on....

Alex McLeish has been installed as the new favourite for the Scotland manager’s job. Big Eck is now spearheading the market at 2/1 to return to the job he held for less than a year in 2007.

That comes after three previous favourites plummeted down the betting – David Moyes (7/1) after taking the West Ham job until next summer, Malky Mackay (10/1) after the SFA said he wouldn’t be taking the job full-time (without him knowing – lol), and Derek McInnes (10/1) who is in pole position for the Rangers job.

The other big move in the market is Michael O’Neill (now 4/1) after his Northern Ireland side were defeated in the home leg of their World Cup play off with Switzerland.

That result saw the Glasgow-based boss soar up the market into second favourite.

Paddy said: “The SFA claim that they’ve had worldwide interest in the job, but I’m not sure that Harry Redknapp offering to helicopter up from Bournemouth counts.

“Alex McLeish is the new favourite, and should do a solid job, until a mid-range job in the Midlands comes up.”
