There was controversy abound in the FA Cup first round as National League South side Whitehawk FC hosted the Northern Premier’s Stourbridge last weekend.
With the game locked at 1-1, Whitehawk launched a final attack from a corner deep into stoppage time.
After the ball was cleared, it fell to Javier Favarel outside of the area and just as he unleashed a stunning volley referee Robert Whitton inexplicably decided to blow the full-time whistle.
The powerful drive ended up in the net giving the keeper no chance, but was ruled out causing the Whitehawk players to surround the whistler in protest.
To add to the heartache for the Whitehawk, their goalkeeper Matt Gould was shown a red card during the protestations and will miss the replay.
A home tie with League One outfit Northampton Town is the prize for the winner of the replay, but we still can’t believe the ref decided to blow this one up when he did.
