Watford v Liverpool

Betting Tips: MANE THE MAN IN OUR MEGA 30/1 BET BUILDER FOR WATFORD V LIVERPOOL
Kick-Off Time: Saturday 12:30
TV Channel: BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate

LIVERPOOL TO WIN

The Reds have graced us with some beautiful football this season, but they’re not quite Brentford, fortunately neither are Watford – expect Liverpool to get back to winning ways this weekend!

OVER 2.5 GOALS

Fun fact, Liverpool haven’t been in a game with less than two goals scored this season. In fact, Liverpool themselves have scored three or more in six of their last seven games. This is far and away the most firepower that Watford have found themselves up against this season, however, Ranieri’s defensive system that relies on counter-attacking football could slow down the Reds.

ISMAILA SARR TO HAVE 1 OR MORE SHOTS ON TARGET

Sarr has been a star so far for this Watford side and the Senegalese winger has four goals to his name this season. He’s also had 17 total shots, 10 of those being on target. He over-indexes on goals in relation to shots and shots on target – a perfect choice for our Bet Builder.

MOHAMED SALAH TO HAVE 2 OR MORE SHOTS ON TARGET

How could we possibly leave out the Egyptian King? After achieving the milestone of 100 Premier League goals, we’re expecting to see him finding the target on more than one occasion. He, like Mane, has 27 total shots on goal this season but has found the target on 12 occasions, scoring six times. Averaging just under two shots on target per game, it’d be rude not to!

SADIO MANE TO SCORE ANYTIME

Mane, oh Mane, another man who has had a rip-roaring start to the season, finding form again that we thought was lost after 2019. With four goals this season in seven appearances, he’s had 27 total shots, eight of which were on target, and he can find the net in this one.

MOUSSA SISSOKO TO BE SHOWN A CARD

As mentioned above, Ranieri’s style of management is focused on a strong defensive platform that feeds off of counter-attacking opportunities. With Peter Etebo out for the foreseeable future, Watford will be without a defensive midfielder adequately equipped in slowing the ball coming in to protect their backline. Someone will need to step up and put in the big tackles and Moussa Sissoko could end up with the task. As such, a booking could be in order for the Frenchman.

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “I’ve always had a soft spot for Claudio Ranieri and not just because he won the title with Leicester. I remember when I was still assistant manager at Liverpool with Gerard Houllier, God bless him, and Claudio was Chelsea manager. We had our ups and downs on the touchline but he was a wonderful guy.

“It’s nice to see him back. Watford are doing alright but the thing with Watford is, they haven’t kept a clean sheet in 17 Premier League games. Do you know when their last clean sheet in the top flight was? I know they were out of the Premier League last season, but it was the 3-0 victory against Liverpool back in 2020.

“They do have a soft spot in the defence. Listen, this Liverpool team are unbeaten in 10 in all competitions. They are the only remaining unbeaten side in the Premier League… this is going to be a Win for Liverpool To Nil.”

DANNY INGS TO SCORE ANYTIME

If you were looking for an example of a smooth transition when it comes to a Premier League player transferring between clubs, then Danny Ings might just be your man. The former Liverpool and Southampton striker has certainly hit the ground running since moving to Aston Villa, scoring a goal in each of the club’s opening pair of Premier League fixtures. He has also picked up two assists so far this term, demonstrating how he has already become a key part of Dean Smith’s attacking game plan.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO

This drives me mad. Because all my intuition tells me that both of these sides have tonnes of goals in them, but there are two key factors that steer me away from it.

The first is obvious – that we’re coming off an international break where routine is thrown out the window and generally fatigue takes over. The second: the xG. United’s 14 goals are the second-highest overperformance relative to their expected goals through the opening games of the Premier League.

Leicester are one of the seven sides to score a full goal more than their xG would hand them. These two are overperforming, and while xG doesn’t usually mean a return to average because better players score more difficult opportunities, the differences are too big for both here and it’s Both Teams To Score? No.

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “You wouldn’t have imagined, would you, Brendan Rodgers having a little bit of pressure on him, but it’s no win in four for Brendan which is just quite incredible. Incredibly, at home, they’ve won just one of the last five.

“Listen, Manchester United are away-day specialists. What is it now? 29 unbeaten? I think they’re going to continue on that streak. I do fancy Manchester United to Win this.”

Man City v Burnley

Betting Tips: TAP IN OUR 20/1 SATURDAY 3PM BTTS PREMIER LEAGUE ACCA

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – YES

City are the best team in the league and they’re more balanced than previously believed, but allowing one goal after a lengthy international break with a defensive disadvantage at set pieces, it’s not too hard to back Burnley. They’re almost 2.5 goals under their xG tally (City themselves are half a goal under) and are due some luck.

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – YES

Norwich are due four goals against their xG tally and with Teemu Pukki in the lineup, they’ve got a clinical finisher who won’t be off the scoresheet for long. Brighton are the second closest to their actual xG tally in the Premier League (next to Brentford) and for the eye test, Brighton pass it.

Southampton v Leeds

BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE – NO

Leeds have been really annoying thus far. We praised them too much last year, to the point that we’re not conversely criticising them too much now. And the truth is somewhere in between. Ralph Hasenhuttl comes under heat every year because his sides build up lovely and fail to find the net, before it ultimately rectifies itself late in the year. It’s now become cyclical and I won’t argue with his unwanted blueprint.

Brentford v Chelsea

Betting Tips: CHELSEA TO BEAT BRENTFORD IN THIS 25/1 BET BUILDER FOR SATURDAY’S EVENING KICK-OFF
Kick-Off Time: Saturday 17:30
TV Channel: Sky Sports Main Event & Sky Sports Premier League

CHELSEA TO WIN

It’s common for Tuchel’s Blues to play tight games too, so this match is unlikely to be a barnstormer. It took a moment of brilliance from Leandro Trossard to settle the Brighton game and Chelsea will have plenty of players who can deliver in a similar fashion, so they will win here.

8/15
Chelsea Match Odds

AWAY TOTAL CORNERS – OVER 4.5

As the away side are likely to dominate possession – Brentford have the lowest home average in the division this season – then they are likely to force a fair few corners out of the Bees’ defence. Arsenal, Brighton and Liverpool have averaged 7.3 corners between them at the Brentford Community Stadium this season, and the Gunners had the fewest with five. Similarly, Chelsea have also had 7.3 per game on the road and at least five in eight of their 12 away Premier League matches in the Tuchel era, with three of the four exceptions being at big six clubs rather than at teams in the little 14.

3/10
Over 4.5 Corners Away Total Corners 4.5

OVER/UNDER GOALS MARKETS – UNDER 2.5 GOALS

As Brentford scored twice against the Gunners and put three past Liverpool, it may seem odd to say they’ll struggle to score here, but it looks likely that they will. While they had 10 shots in the box against Jurgen Klopp’s side, like buses they often came in pairs. Only two of their second-half attacks in that 3-3 draw resulted in shots in the box and although they also resulted in goals, that sort of hit rate is not sustainable.

And they’ll be up against one of the most impenetrable back lines around too. In their 12 away league games under Tuchel, Chelsea have conceded just seven goals and only more than once on one occasion (at Aston Villa). With the Blues only averaging a tick over two goals per game this season it seems very likely there’ll be under 2.5 in this match.

4/5
Under 2.5 Goals Over/Under 2.5 Goals

MASON MOUNT TO SCORE ANYTIME

The Premier League currently has a gang of 10 players who have accumulated at least one expected goal without scoring so far this season, and one of them will probably appear here. The man in question is Mason Mount, and his goal drought in the league actually stretches back to Chelsea’s absurd 5-2 loss to West Bromwich Albion in early April. He’s made 12 appearances since, firing shots worth around 2.5 expected goals with nothing to show for it.

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “I do fancy Chelsea to Win this one, but Brentford will push them all the way. I think Chelsea are going to have problems. Don’t forget Brentford have only had one Premier League defeat and that was to Brighton.

“They are a good outfit and I think they will make it very, very tough for Chelsea but I do think the visitors will have enough.”

WEST HAM TO WIN

It looks like it’s up in the air whether Calvert-Lewin plays or not. If he doesn’t play West Ham have far more quality in attack with Said Benrahma, Jarrod Bowen and obviously Antonio compared to Salomon Rondon and Demarai Gray.

If Calvert-Lewin wasn’t to start I’d lean towards the West Ham Win. I think these teams are pretty equal but just with Everton’s injury issues that would have me leaning West Ham’s way.

17/10
West Ham Match Odds

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “I think this is a great game, I think this is a wonderful one for Sunday afternoon. Shock has it, Everton have a 100% home record, played three won three. It’s going to be difficult for anyone at Goodison Park. Their only defeat this season has been away at Aston Villa and watch out for Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“I do think he’ll be fit for this one, he’s been out for a while. Obviously the international break has helped them. He’s scored five in the last four versus West Ham. If Dominic Calvert-Lewin is on that team sheet I’ll be having a look, but West Ham will give them a game. I think it’s going to be very tight.

“David Moyes will be absolutely fired up for this, Michael Antonio’s scored nine in his last 13 games so get him maybe on that scoresheet for West Ham, but I’m going for an Everton Win and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Score Anytime.”

Newcastle v Tottenham

Betting Tips: PHIL THOMPSON & OUR TRADER’S 4 BEST BETS FOR NEWCASTLE V SPURS

SON HEUNG-MIN TO SCORE FIRST

Newcastle have the worst xG defensively. Only Norwich and Watford have worse xG figures going forward than Tottenham, and only Norwich and Watford are creating less chances than Tottenham so these are two really out of form teams.

I’d look towards the goalscorer markets. I watched Harry Kane play for England during the week and he still didn’t look fully sharp to me so I think I’d go for Son Heung-min to Score First. That’s the way I’d go here.

4/1
Son Heung-Min First Goalscorer

PHIL THOMPSON’S PREDICTION: “You look at Newcastle, what do they have? That new-owner bounce? They’re one of only four sides that haven’t had a victory this year so there’s not a lot to shout about for both of these sides.

“Newcastle have conceded the most penalties so I am going for The Draw, a Score Draw, and Harry Kane to Score Anytime for Spurs, probably a penalty I would say.”
