Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson isn’t expecting a shock as Euro 2020 outright favourites France take on Switzerland in the last 16. Les Bleus topped the group of death while the Swiss crept into the knockouts, finishing third in Group A.

Croatia or Spain await in the quarter finals for the winner of this one, in what is undoubtedly the tougher half of the draw. But what are Thommo’s best bets for Monday’s late game?

I think there’s only one winner here. France are a lot of people’s tip for the final and I can’t see anything other than a France Win.
Switzerland have done alright, four points and being one of the 3rd-placed qualifiers, they shouldn’t really trouble France. I know people will go, ‘Well, France only got five points’.

But look at the group that they were in. They’ve scored four, three against for France and I do think Kylian Mbappe has to come to the party sooner or later. I’m going for a comfortable 3-0 France victory.
With me going for 3-0 I do fancy Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema, who I know hadn’t scored for a while, but after getting two goals he should be very confident. I’m actually going for Mbappe to Score Anytime and Benzema to Score Anytime as well.
