The Champions League gets back underway on Tuesday and one of the games of the night will be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United taking on Turkish champions Basaksehir. The English side are massive favourites coming into this Group H match despite the Turkish outfit beating the Red Devils 2-1 in the reverse fixture earlier in the month.

Bruno Fernandes to Score Anytime
Bruno Fernandes has been Manchester United’s best player since signing for them in January of this year. At times he’s not only carried the rest of his teammates but he’s been scoring the goals as well. Over his last 11 matches he’s contributed seven goals, four of which were penalties.
The market is predicting plenty of goals here but we’re not so confident. Only three out of United’s seven most recent home matches have seen Over 2.5 goals landing, Basaksehir on their travels share the same stat. If this match is going to be as tight as those stats suggest then there’s really no better player on the pitch who can make the difference, and with him being on penalty duties and in good scoring form to boot, we have to go with him to get on the scoresheet here.

Over 1.5 Man United Second Half Goals
The majority of Manchester Uniteds’ goals have been coming in the second half of matches this season. In the Premier League they’ve scored eight compared to six and in the Champions League have scored five compared to three. Ole Gunnar’s hair dryer treatment must be striking the fear of God into them at half-time. Seriously though there’s something about his team that just doesn’t really click until the second half of matches. United fans complain about him approaching matches too cautiously but here against the Turkish champions that should pay dividends.
Basaksehir are a very dangerous side who have scored 13 over their nine league matches this season and won the league with 65 last season, which isn’t huge but they only let in 34 all of last season. Really they won the league thanks to having the best defence. This season though things aren’t the same – they’ve conceded 12 and their defence isn’t what it was last season. As time ticks down at Old Trafford United will be able to exploit this and we should see the Red Devils putting them to the sword in the second period of play.
Both Teams to Score
Out of their last 15 matches on the road Basaksehir have only been kept scoreless on four occasions and every man and his dog knows that Man United’s defence is a bit of a mess. They’ve kept just five clean sheets over their last 15 matches in all competitions, West Brom, Luton Town and Brighton are just some of the behemoths of English football who they’ve managed to keep scoreless. We’re getting pretty good odds here, both teams are scoring and conceding plenty of late. We’re getting on this before the price falls any further.

We’ve made a case already for how dangerous Basaksehir are. And while Manchester United should win it on the night the Turks have beaten them already this season and will be desperate to get back-to-back wins in the Champions Leagues as it could get them up to second position depending on goal difference.
