A delighted Liverpool fan has saved Erik “Tenth” Hag in his Twitter drafts with a view to sharing the tweet when things ultimately go wrong for the new Manchester United manager, suggesting the joke could “break the internet”.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Despite the managerial announcement being made over a week ago, 17-year-old Lewis Smith who is a season ticket holder at Anfield claims the phrase came to him like an epiphany and cannot believe a single person hadn’t thought of it before he did.
“I’m buzzing to send this Tweet and for the phrase to go viral. It could go down as the funniest joke in history. When United lose 3-0 at home to Brighton on the first day of the season it is going to be so fitting” said James to a Paddy Power News reporter.
“How on earth did John Bishop or Jimmy Carr not think of it? Liverpool will be starting the season as quadruple winners, whereas United will continue their downward spiral. Erik ten Hag? More like Erik finishing tenth Hag.”
With the play on words likely to raise a few half-smiles amongst football supporters across social media should United actually find themselves in tenth place at any time next season, James has bigger ambitions than just sending a tweet.
“First of all, I am going to patent the phrase making it mine, legally. Then I am going to create a terrace anthem that will be sung on the Kop for years to come.”
“From there, who knows? Maybe some memorabilia. T-shirts, mugs, pens, some of those big foam hands, the lot. Where were you when tenth Hag got sacked for taking United to tenth position? That’s what people will be asking by the end of next season.”
Elsewhere on Merseyside, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is set to sign a contract extension at the club, to the delight of the supporters.
It is understood he will sign on for an additional two years with several clauses included in the contract, such a free teeth-whitening sessions at Scouse-Smiles owned by Robbie Fowler’s wife, and unlimited access to Steve McManaman’s baseball cap collection.
