Following his premature departure from the Republic of Ireland set-up, we’ve have released odds on Mick McCarthy’s next managerial job – with the Barnsley native tipped to return to the South Yorkshire side that gave him his start in football.
Mick and his moustache made their debut at Oakwell back in the late 70s and after 314 appearances and 10 goals, he was snapped up by Manchester City at the end of 1983. Oh, how times change.
We’ve priced him up at 15/2 for an emotional return to where it all began with the bottom-of-the-Championship side.
He’s the same price for the manager’s job at Celtic, another old stomping ground during his playing days.
After two cracks at the Ireland top job, McCarthy is a 6/1 shot to manage any international team, with returns to former clubs Sunderland (10/1) and Millwall (12/1) also marked up.
Perhaps of more pressing concern than which club Mick ends up getting back to work at is whether his tache will make a comeback too?
