13:20 – Hallasan

An early-season two-year-old novice usually produces a few useful types and the betting often points the way. HALLASAN and Al Qudra both make plenty of appeal on paper for red-hot Charlie Appleby and William Buick’s mount gets the vote before market clues. Bretton Wood, and Arran, from a yard with an impressive juvenile winner at Kempton last week, are a couple of others to note.

13:50 – Dream Composer

DREAM COMPOSER won this race 12 months ago from a 1 lb higher mark and he has seemingly been targeted at this prize once more. He went on to win other handicaps at Goodwood and Sandown last season before his form tailed off, meaning he started back at Doncaster last month from a lenient mark and left the impression he’d come on for the run. This track clearly suits him well and another bold bid is expected. Navello arrives on the back of a win on the all-weather and is feared, while Makanah has a decent record fresh and can’t be ruled out.

14:2o – Grand Karat

A typically warm-looking three-year-old handicap for this meeting. GRAND KARAT ran well when placed behind some handy sorts on his final two outings last season (solid form), and an opening mark of 80 could prove generous with that in mind, so he looks fascinating on return given he has the potential for even better still. Break The Bank should have more to come on the back of his impressive Kempton handicap debut success and is second choice ahead of Godolphin’s Broadway Act, who won at this course as a juvenile last year.

14:55 – Benacre

Not an easy puzzle to solve, with several making significant appeal. BENACRE‘s form dipped following a promising start to last season but he has edged down the weights as a result and there was plenty of encouragement in his reappearance third on the all-weather. He gets the nod ahead of last year’s winner Bopedro and unexposed handicap debutant Slipofthepen. Aerion Power and Majestic are effective in these big-field scenarios and should be in the mix, too.

15:30 – Boiling Point

BOILING POINT shaped well on his first two starts at Newbury and he built on that promise when opening his account at Thirsk in September. That wasn’t the strongest event, but he took a big step forward when only narrowly denied in a Group 3 over this course and distance on his final start later that month. He looked more mature on that occasion, looking the winner – he traded at 1.01 in running on Betfair – only to be headed on the post. Boiling Point is a good-topped colt who should progress further this season and he looks the one to beat on these terms. Starlore can easily be forgiven for his final run last season and displayed plenty of promise before that, so he’s feared most.

16:05 – Kikkuli

KIKKULI has a tremendous pedigree. He’s a half-brother to outstanding Frankel – and shaped with plenty of encouragement when runner-up on his debut over this course and distance last season. The winner has franked the form since, while the third also won the next time out, so the form has a solid look to it, and Kikkuli is just the type to progress further as a three-year-old (nice type physically). Creative Story and Manhattan Mirage are feared most in what should prove an informative contest.

16:40 – Brunel Nation

The useful-looking BRUNEL NATION took a sizeable step forward when scoring at Chelmsford three weeks ago and Richard Hughes’ gelding is fancied to take advantage of his race fitness to follow up. Eye of Dubai enters handicaps on a fair-looking mark and could prove the main danger, whilst Bonaventure also strikes as one who should prove capable of better in this sphere.

17:15 – Spun To Gold

SPUN TO GOLD quickly got back on track when winning a five-runner maiden at Chelmsford in October and with his pedigree suggesting he will go on improving this year, Andrew Balding’s charge makes a good deal of appeal on return and handicap debut from what looks a fair opening mark. Pressure’s On, a winner on his final start as a two-year-old, is also worth a look partnered by Ryan Moore.
