Horse Racing Tips: 4/1 play tops today’s Chelmsford best bets

The Racing Post are backing Butterfly Effect (17:45) in the first race of Thursday's Chelmsford City race card.

17:45 – Butterfly Effect

Rock Girl (second choice) is likely to give it her usual good shot but her merit is quite well established so it might be worth giving another chance to BUTTERFLY EFFECT, who had a failure to handle the track as a possible excuse when a beaten favourite at Epsom and had shaped well on her AW debut prior to that. Galaxy Gazer also has the form to figure, while Probable and Spring Day are newcomers from respected stables.

18:15 – Mostallim

Most of these have something to recommend them but MOSTALLIM showed a fine attitude when scoring at Kempton last time and he can defy his small rise in the weights. 3yos Masterclass and Astral Beat may provide the stiffest resistance.

18:45 – Three Dons

Hard to warm to many of these. Counterattack is bred to be much better than this and he is feared on his handicap debut, especially if the market speaks in his favour. Essme (second choice) should make another bold bid but THREE DONS has shown winning potential and he is marginally preferred.

19:15 – All Go

C&D winner Finery (second choice) seems sure to build on her recent Thirsk seventh after an absence, so needs considering, while the consistent Deep Sigh is weighted to have a say. However, ALL GO is proving a reliable sort and looks to start life in handicaps on a lenient mark, so can follow up her Southwell novice success.

19:45 – Janus

Angels Roc, unpenalised and 8lb ahead of the handicapper after a wide-margin win at Brighton ten days ago, is the one to beat if proving as effective on AW. While his two runs on Polytrack aren’t conclusive proof he won’t handle it, they do raise enough concerns to think it might be worth looking elsewhere at the likely prices. Jacks Profit won’t need much more for the addition of a visor to play a big part but JANUS went close here last week and might be the answer.

20:15 – City Vaults

Captain Howse proved well suited by this trip for the first time when grinding it out from the front at Wolverhampton last week. He should again prove a tough nut to crack, despite not being well-in under the penalty, but CITY VAULTS (nap) is unexposed as a stayer after an easy win over 1m6f nine days ago and is preferred. The harder they go the better it will be for serial slow starter Bird For Life.
